Sweet Success

Drove it around the block today, smooth as silk.

Gotta take off the 4psi boost cut, but damn it's nice!

new clutch actually engages where it's supossed....had me worried for a second, since im used to it engaging on the floor.

more tuning tomorrow, done for the day.

cjernigan 04-21-2007 03:11 PM

Glad to hear it. It's a pretty good feeling when you build the MS and then drive your car knowing you built the ECU controlling everything.

Braineack 04-21-2007 04:06 PM

i did about 2/100th of the build, but 100% of the cursing. Just took some head scratching to get spark to work, and then it was just the little things.

Big props the Brian (NeoGen) and Lars (Sheuind) for making my dreams come true..:gay:

Lars, here how the board ended up:

Way to go Scot now i gotta catch up.

akaryrye 04-21-2007 07:25 PM

It looks like you are using the VB921 Mod sending out to your stock ignitor. That is not the diyautune mods for the stock ignitors.

also what is that jumper that I circled doing?

shuiend 04-21-2007 08:17 PM

The jumper that you circled is for the PWM Idle mod. It says in megamanual to jumper that instead of putting in the R39. I had to look that up myself.

As for not doing the DIY way, we had it that way first. There was no way we could get spark doing it that way. So we switched it to how Brads was done and spark worked right away. I have my MS set up the DIY way and get no spark. I am going to try switching to that way and see if that fixes it.

Mouglie 04-21-2007 08:29 PM

congrats man, glad to hear you got that beast running. whats up with the boost cut at 4psi? is that a setting in the software or the actuator for the wastegate?

magnamx-5 04-21-2007 08:37 PM

probably his tunning failsafe. it is actualy a smart move on unproven systems.

shuiend 04-21-2007 08:57 PM

I actually think his boost cutoff at 4psi was something mechanical he did. I forget exactly what he said but I dont think it has to do with MS.

Braineack 04-21-2007 09:32 PM

Actually it was a MS thing, something I saw in Al's map so I did it myself so i didn't fudge the bucket.....there's just a boost cut setting, so if you boost above a certain point it's like a nice big rev limiter. Advanced > Over Boost Protection

Akaryrye...you acutally have it how i think it should be...look at DIY's diagram again and they have it slightly different than that....but the way you show it is how I think it should be to put it on the correct resistor...either way, I believe it's only for the LEDs.

cjernigan 04-21-2007 09:45 PM

Talking about rev limiters i kind of want to put it on spark cut only and set it for like 6k just to see how it sounds or how well it works. I'm sure it works good, but I was told it will backfire like a bastard if you just cut spark, is that right? I don't have a cat so that part of it isn't dangerous.

Al Hounos 04-21-2007 10:58 PM

my rev limit is spark only, works fine. no backfire or flames though... :sadwavey:

overboost cut is great, mine's set at 210kpa, it is crucial to have it when you're doing boost control settings.

GTS Miata 04-21-2007 11:05 PM

congrats on getting it running. Looking at your pictures reminds me that I have a ways to go on my assembly. I'm only on step 27...

Does doing it how you have it drawn work? If so that means DIY's picture is off by one pin to the right. Which would explain why it never works.

cjernigan 04-21-2007 11:08 PM

Well heck, i was hoping for some kick ass flames and bang bang bang noises on a test run using that.
I just set my overboost values. Thanks for the tip.

y8s 04-21-2007 11:20 PM

congrats scott. you beat me to having a running car.

Braineack 04-22-2007 12:17 PM

except now i gotta tune it....I believe I'm using Al's turbosetup.msq as a base, adjusted the VE table for more fuel and my engine constant....it runs great till about 5psi where it shoot lean....gotta figure that one out, then if I'm in low rpms the AFR will start going more and more lean untill the car starts to shake, then it wakes up and drives normal again....besides that it feels nice....going to go look at my logs now.

Braineack 04-22-2007 12:28 PM

see between 145 sec and 165 sec for the lean issue at cruise....notice my rpms

and between 240 and 250 sec for lean issue in boost:

Braineack 04-22-2007 01:22 PM

much better....needs a bit more fuel in boost and a bit less in cruise....

cjernigan 04-22-2007 02:18 PM

Even though it takes a little while to get a good fuel map sorted out it sure is nice having this much control isn't it?

akaryrye 04-22-2007 02:34 PM

Hey that picture I edited was done really quick so i might be off by a pin, dont take what It shows as gospel, but rather as just a quick way to get my general point across.

Scott, i may actually go ahead and change it the way your board is modded because it may be a bit more reliable. I get random stumbles and whatnot with my setup, which are not that bad, but can be annoying.

Braineack 04-22-2007 02:46 PM

....it works ;)

I got the VE table pretty good, still a few cells that need fine tuning, when i watch in realtime it chooses both back and forth rapidly on a few cells and the value are fairly far apart so it resultS in a bouncing AFR....

In boost it's pretty perfect...it between 2000-3000rpms out of boost where it needs work....otherwise it's great.

cjernigan 04-22-2007 02:58 PM

up through 3krpm seems to be the hardest part of the table to tune when out of boost. For some reason, in boost tuning was the easiest for me.

Braineack 04-22-2007 04:37 PM

yeah exactly...would have gotten it pretty close, but my damn stub is still leaking....time to redo it all...needs a new battery again too, this thing was only 4 months old....always worked great, pulled the 12v when i did the clutch swap, wouldn't crank after that, been jumping off my altima this whole time, after a 30min drive it still wouldn't hold the charge.

im having the most trouble between 40 and 60 kpa, i might need to adjust my VE scale a bit to add an extra row of cells between the two, that would be the easiest way.
