throttle body swap
Anyone know what would be involved in using the 94 throttle body w/ all its goodness (tps) w/ a 90-93 mspnp. I have a 94 engine in my car presently and would like to use the 94 t-body if it wouldn't be to much extra wiring to make it work w/ the mspnp. thanks!

Not difficult. You should read the MSPNP manual, as it will describe exactly what you'd have to do. It even tells you how to determine which wire is which on the variable TPS.
|
actually, he wants to swap the whole t-body, not just the tps. that's more work than it's worth.
just swap the tps sensor over to the 1.6 t-body. much easier. |
Sorry, my fault. Somebody here knows the details of swapping the sensor only...TurboTim I think?
|
yeah I bought his converted t-body from him, actually. but don't know WTH I did with it.

nope you're going to have to finger it out. but it's much easier to swap the tps over than to swap whole t-bodies.
or search for Atl's BMW tps recommendation that's a bolt on affair. |
Ben, im gonna politely disagree with you and pull out the flag :bsflag:
Unless I am missing something, if his motor is a 94(1.8), and his throttle body is a 94(1.8), that throttle body should bolt right up to his intake manifold, and the only thing he should have to figure out is a couple wires. |

A variable TPS as far as I understand always has a ground, a 12v/5v ref, and an output voltage (and a throttle closed switch on 1.6 tbs and likely 1.8 as well). I would expect that connecting the correct wires and tuning the tps (getting closed and open ADC) it will work in the same way as the 1.6auto tps.

Going back and reading the OP, I remember why I made my first response in the first place. It's in the manual, and shouldn't be difficult to open the pnp box and take off the resistors/add jumpers. Especially now that they clarified the manual after my debacle ;)
|
yeah, uhm he says 90-93 mspnp, so I assumed he had a 1.6. if he has a 1.8 swap in his 90-93 car, that's fine, but that's the kind of shit that the OP needs to state clearly.

haha
OK, I'm a dildo. Yeah man, bolt that muther up. Wiring's in the manual. Plumbing should be easy enough since you've got the 1.8. You'll want to start with the idle control and closed loop idle control settings from the 94-95 mspnp. Sorry I missed that originally, would have saved a bunch of stupid posts. |
