timing calibration question
 

So I tried to calibrate my timing via megatune. I go under spark settings, and change the timing from -10 to 10. Then I check the timing with my light. I get it to read -10 from adjusting the trigger angle. Then I change the 10 to a -10. My timing at idle reads 10 degrees on the balancer via timing light (physical). According to my map it should be different. What am I doing wrong?Attachment 10474

If you rev the engine while observing the timing with the light, does it change?

even i can barely folow that shit man. To confirm that your shit worked change the base timing in ms to 15 or something and note if it changes correctly or not.

Yes, the timing advances. My spark map shows that as the RPM
s go up, the timing should advance...which it does. It just doesn't seem to match. Unless I am not understanding something? The car seems to run ok, but I just want to make sure everything is calibrated properly...

all i ever do is change all the idle bins on the spark map to the same amount (10* is easiest). hit it with the timing light, and either turn the CAS or adjust the trigger offset until it matches.

trigger offset should be roughly 70*, for the fwd BP anyway. i'd imagine the miata is the same, but take that number with a grain of salt.

Then you didn't do the "Fixed Angle" setting correctly. Try it again. Set "Fixed Angle" to "10", then BURN to ECU, then re-check the timing. Adjust trigger angle, then set fixed to "-10" and BURN again. Then re-check.

So I'm not sure what I was doing wrong, but I redid it today and got it to read 10* on the pulley, and then I set the 10 back to -10, and reburned. I checked it again and it was idling at 17* like it should according to the spark table. I must've not clicked reburn the last time or something. Just letting you know it's good now, and thanks for helping for correct my simple settings that I may have overlooked.
