TPS Connector

Does anybody know where I can get a TPS connector (harness side) for a 99-00 TPS?

I spent about 2hrs at the local pick and pull the other day and came back empty handed. I checked every Ford and Mazda in the yard, as well as few others.

I called Mazdamotorsports and found out that Mazda doesn't sell just the connector. I can buy a whole harness, but not a connector. Most Miata salvage yards won't cut off the pigtail for me and want to sell the whole harness also.

Any recommendations? New connector source?

Thought about test driving a used 99 and sourcing the connector accidently. :D

What does the TPS side connector look like. I might have a solution for you, cheaper than buying a whole harness.

I don't have a picture of it, but it's a 3 female pin connector.

I found a connector that had the same internals, but the shell was different. I cut the shell off the connector and just used heat shrink to mate the connector. The heat shrink is not secure enough and I loose the signal periodically. I guess I can solder wires right to the pins on the TPS and put a OTS 3 pin connector inline, but it would be nice to find the right connector and call it a day.

Does it look something like this, only three pins wide?

I got mine from the Parts Group. It wasn't cheap but they cut if off for me. You might ask them the price of the whole harness before you ask them the price of just the TPS plug.

If you wind up with a whole harness, I know someone who might be interested in the Knock sensor plug.:)

Tom at Parts Group is out of town till next week. I tried calling him yesterday.

Jerry, the connector does not look like that at all. Its basically a flat oval.

I just picked up a new generic 3-pin connector. I think I am going to just solder wires to the pins on the TPS and wire in the new connector and call it a day. I am wasting too much time on a stupid connector.

Solder. Done.

What about just crimping on some of those female connectors they use in audio systems all the time?

I was going to say, radioshack has lots of small spades you might be able to use or the ECU crimp pins we use in the patch harnesses might fit.

I just soldered wires right to the pins in the TPS. It might not be the best way of doing it, but it worked. :D

I just got home, went and looked at my TPS. You sooo could have used spades on those pins. Soldering works fine though too.

For future reference, I got a variable TPS from a BMW that has the same plug. It was a 318 or something.

To use the TPS I needed to make a bracket for it and swap the wires in the harness plug, but otherwise it fits on the 'd' shaft just fine and uses the same plug.
