TPS slowly raising for no reasons.. any ideas
 

Ok so I finally got my car started, it ran like ass, but something is bugging me.

TPS in TS slowly raises 1 unit of measurement even though I have the TPS unhooked like Brain's write-up says.

Specs
MS 1 on 3,57 board
standalone
NA6 body.

on a side note, it seem like my battery dies if I leave the MS hooked up for over 30 mins. I believe it could have to do with the TPS issue.

attached is the log of the first "run" don't mind that the o2 isn't working.

You need a real TPS in there to get a real TPS reading. The TPS signal wire may need to be grounded to keep it from creeping up.

I'll try grounding the tps signal and see if that fixes the problem. Unfortunately I need to keep the stock 1.6TPS, as I am still switching back and forth between the MS and stock ecu until I get all the bugs worked out.

That's fine. If you're using the base maps that DIY provides for the 1.6 cars, then you don't actually need a TPS signal for anything. It can be convenient for logging, for flood-clear, and other tweaks, but you can run just fine without it. Simply ground the pin and leave it be.

Well the biggest issue I had was it kicked in flood-clear a few times on me when testing. :vash:

On a similar note. I was working with the car the other day, and was getting a tach signal of 1/2 of what the TS was showing. At the same time, unable to get timing gun to work off plug 1, but worked off plug 2. So semi stupid question, but would getting no spark to 1/4 cause my tach to read 1/2 of what the correct motor rotation. It got dark and cold before i could look farther into this, so.

simple fix is putting a 1K resistor from the TPS input to ground. that will prevent it from constantly increasing.


If the dash tach was showing half, then 2 coils weren't firing. MS will show full because it's driven off CAS...dash tash is driven off Coils. 2 out of 4 event = 1/2 speed.

Sweet on the 1k resistor. I'll give that a shot, as it is easier then add a temp ground.

Also that is what I was thinking was why the tach was reading 1/2. Also supported by lack of timing light off plug 1. Just ran out of time for testing. That saves me a bit of testing, now to figure out why I lost spark, if it ain't one thing it is another.
