Trigger Angle

Alot of us are running a trigger angle above 70, for example once calibrated with a timing light i have a trigger angle of 71.
The MSnSE manual says:
"Typically you should aim for a Trigger Angle of 60-70deg or 0-5deg as this is outside the usual range that the spark is needed."

Anything wrong with us running these larger than 70* trigger angles?

I have 79, but i didnt realize that it needs to be set for each car ... oops. Im gonna set it per the manual right now. I set the timing by setting the idle map to 10* and adjusted the cas until the light read 10*.

I set my CAS around the middle of it's adjustment I think. Then i followed the MM directions. Set my Fixed angle to 12 because the timing marks are in increments of 2 and adjusted my trigger angle until the timing light read 12* at the pulley.

I noticed from DIYautotunes spark settings that they run like a 63 trigger angle, thus being under 70. Maybe they know how important this is.

could be ... so the way i understand it is that the adjusting the trigger angle is the same thing as turning the CAS right? but there may be some benefit to finding the right CAS adjustment to get it into that 60 - 70 range eh?

Might be, the only PITA is every time i have to set the trigger angle i have to hassle my buddy to let me borrow his strobe. Pretty sure I owe him a 6pack already. Might just buy my own, walmart sell them?

i got one at kragen for $30 it is a necessary tool for your collection.

Well heck, guess I'll go buy one. I get tired of spending money. I feel like i've spent my quota on the car this week, but i'm not going to get a bonus for exceeding my quota. It never ends does it. I need a check valve and a restrictor for my vac system anyway. Guess i'm going out.

ya i dont even want to think about all the little crap ive bought because of this car since last year ... its unreal. On another note, i did not change my trigger angle today. I have it set to 79 and i am curious if it might be the cause of a random stumble im getting

20-50 degrees is the 'no zone' but where you're at (71) will be fine. You can always adjust it at your CAS as well if needed to get outside of the 20-50 degree zone if that's where your call tries to fall initially when you set base timing.

Here's the page of th MS1 Extra Manual covering this-- http://www.msextra.com/manuals/MS_Ex...#trigangletune
