Trigger Wizardry
 

Hello,

i am trying to track down a problem with my ecu. I had another post about an erratic idle a week or two ago. I have identified something that has proven to be a reproducible fix to my poor idle stability after a warm start. I will post the log below of what is happening. Basically it starts with a poor idle, unstable afr, unstable rpm, its running quite rough during this time. This is the weird part which was discovered by pure chance, if I open the trigger wizard and change the ignition offset an insignificant amount, like + or - .1 degrees, magically everything smooths out. There will be two logs that start with the poor condition i speak of then about halfway through I kick the throttle and burn the trigger wizard offset change and that is all. The engine performance changes pretty much instantly, smooth idle and fairly stable afr(still in open loop). Usually i just go up .1 then down .1 the next time around as this has proven a reliable fix for now. the car feels great after this is preformed. I cant figure out what it means! is it that the microsquirt module is bad or is my soldering job crap on this board or something else. Can someone who has some better understanding of the program and hardware weigh in, what happens when the trigger wizard offset is uploaded? any suggestions would be great. let me know if some elaboration is needed.

the car is a stock '96M except; 640 flow force injectors, external map sensor, diypnp ms2. using the stock air box mat sensor

I'm seeing an occasional loss of sync issue, but that's about it. Consider switching the fueling to semi-sequential or full sequential. Your fueling at idle is kind of on the edge of what's able to idle well on batch fire.

Thanks for your reply Matt. You have exposed my ignorance and I may have learned something. Did some investigating and just tried switching to semi-sequential. I think you're putting me on the right track. Although I have got lots of work to do, as at least the VE table is now way off. Going to follow down this path maybe even grab the extra drivers to run full sequential at some point in the future. I really appreciate the feedback!


Edit: I just had another chance to start up the car and do a little tuning. HOLY CRAP its good now. At this moment it seems obvious this was my issue,couple other issues smoothed out as well. I'm gonna call this problem solved! Not sure why my little trigger wizard trick was helping but the car now idles better than I have experienced with this ecu. So yeah, thanks Matt!
