tuner cable broken. help!

Help!

I have a broken serial cable (the cable that goes from the mspnp to the pc) i got the first generation mspnp.
wire snapped out at the PC side, so I have to solder they back on

what i need is a picture or a wiring diagram that shows me how the wiring should be on the pc side of the cable. (I cant find any information on the diyautotune page or at google)

can't you just buy a new one?

Shame on you, brain. This is a DIY forum. Buying new is for the unwashed masses.

I did talk to Patrick at Diyautotune.com and he did tell me this:
The red wire goes to pin 5.
The shield for the red wire goes to pin 3.
The white wire goes to pin 2.
The shield for the white wire goes to pin 9.
The pin numbers are also printed very small on both the front and back of the DB9 connector

So if someone is unlucky like me in the future this is the way to do it =)

someone else would just buy a new $5 cable.

You?

probably. I tried repairing a set of headphones the other day and ended up tossing them in the trash after spending an hour seperating the wires and burning off the enamal and soldering them back together and carefully warpping them back up only to have the make static/bad ocnnection noise anytime you moved the cord around.

I've spent hours tearing apart some crappy McDonnalds toys for my son. All because the batteries died, and he was still playing with it. Even had to make a special triangular socket driver to fit the screws.

I got an extra MSPNP gen 1 cable. If you want it for the cost of postage PM me.

Wait wait wait YOU couldn't solder the colored wires on there? :sadwavey: December 2012 doesnt seem so far all the sudden.

you have to burn/scrap off the enamal. It's kind of a pain in the ass, you gotta find the break, strip the wires, seperate the threads, burn off the paint, sand it down, connect them back, solder, and warp it up.

There were 4 wires total, ground, blue, green, red. The extra was for the mic channel.

These got run over a few times with my chair, so I think I had multiple breaks in the wires. I got sound to return, but it was still cutting in and out when the cord moved around, so either I did a bad job or I had another bad section. I decided the trash can could figure it out.

Indeed I hate the colored wires. I usually use a lighter to burn the crap off but too many times its enough heat to melt the wire it self.

when your pockets are full grown like mine, you gotta debate if it's worth your time to be cheap or not.

triple88a 07-23-2012 09:20 AM

Well my headphones are like 110 bucks :P Earforce Z6

Braineack 07-23-2012 09:22 AM

oh, mine were like $15 from target. and this is why my pockets are so deep.
