Tunerstudio MS alone or get Megalogviewer too?

My new Rev MS3Enhanced is in. Just waiting on the mounting bracket and I'll be installing it, then needing to tune. Was going to be purchasing the full Tunerstudio MS to get the VE Analyze functionality and they offer the combo with MegaLogViewer MS and HD.

Is it worth getting the MegaLogViewer for just doing normal tuning? If so, MS version of the HD version? Looks like HD version just allows more types of non-Megasquirt log files, so I can't see it as being worth it...

Just making sure I'm getting the right software the first time. Thanks guys.

how would you tune the car without logging?

TheIglu 05-09-2016 10:11 AM

Combo it is!

I expected a bit more sarcasm to my dumb question. You guys are slacking.

Really though, thanks. I do appreciate it. It isn't readily apparent to a complete outsider to tuning that you can't open logs with Tunerstudio itself.

Does the Histogram function make the HD version of MegaLogViewer worth it?

18psi 05-09-2016 10:19 AM

I'm not sure which is which, but I think the combo is 60 bux right? in which case yes get it. and yes it's really helpful reviewing logs and seeing where on the maps you actually are sometimes

TheIglu 05-09-2016 10:21 AM

Combo for the HD MegaLogViewer is $99, regular MegaLogViewer combo is $80.

Just get the regular combo, you are fine without HD.

TheIglu 05-09-2016 10:41 AM

Thanks!

Now all I need to do is figure out a way to do a 3" dump pipe straight from my turbo housing under my seat so it fries off my nuts and I don't procreate.

 :likecat:

I see you've been doing some reading

TheIglu 05-09-2016 10:56 AM

Posting a stupid question without doing plenty of reading first will get you flamed. I mean, not on this forum of course, but others. :D

I've read so much that I've confused myself necessitating the dumb question that was the first post. I appreciate the clarity!

Don't worry, once I get the MS3 installed, I'm sure I'll be the dumb guy spamming the whole board with stupid questions.

Just for another opinion, I paid for megalogviewer and use the basic free tunerstudio. I use MSDroid to datalog on my tablet or phone, then open the datalog in megalogviewer on my computer to make changes to my fuel map. It's obviously more labor intensive that way, but I like seeing what changes are being made and I hate hauling around a laptop in my car to datalog.

You can download the free versions and use them on a trial period right? Maybe that's a good option to see what works best for you before paying for something you find out you're not going to use.

I wanted to bring this back from the dead.

I've been currently doing it the "hard" way since - I'm cheap and I was still learning. I've been taking SEVERAL ~26second data logs and then working through them with analysis - and doing that over and over and over. So I've been mainly using MLV. Is there any particular reason to get TS paid vs MLV paid? I'm planning on getting MLV paid...just wondering if I was missing anything blatant with TS (other than VEAL)?

Only running MSPNP2

Good news. They have a spot on their site that will tell you exactly that.

I mean I've read that...its more of a practicality bit. If you can run VEAL, why would you do datalog and explore with MLV and run VE analysis?

It's $40 for MLV, vs $60 for TS, vs $80 for both. Wanted to understand the motivation.

Because there's more to tuning than just running VEAL? Megalogviewer is a tool that can help you do more than just get your fueling right.

BTW, I applaud the way you are doing things now. Time consuming, yes. Are you actually learning more? Absolutely. And once you really get the hang of it you are a lot less likely to gloss over problem areas.

Thanks! Went ahead and picked up MLV MS a few days ago, and it's pretty good so far. It's nice not to be limited to 400 data points. Fun, but not so fun, thing I found out was that apparently I was working with the trial version of MLV HD - I like the histograms/tables. Worth the extra $10? Probably, but at this point...not feeling upgrading via $20 to get them back. It's more than enough for me right now.
