Tuning the DIYPNP

I've obviously got no idea how to tune this Megasquirt...

The car warms up and is idling ok but the AFR is sitting on 12.1 and the car is spitting fuel out the exhaust. If I blip the throttle it flips around to 17 or so then drops back to 12.1. No change I make seems to bring it closer to 14.7.

I've tried capturing an idling log file with TunerStudio then putting it through VE analyse in MegaLogViewer but it keeps scaling the VE table up. It's currently around 100 for around idling speeds (up from the stock map of 50) and the fuel spitting is getting worse.

Why would it be sitting on 12.1?

Help? :)

I always enter the values for idle in by hand until the AFR is right. Then go from there
Try changing your AFR targets.

Might be a silly question, but you do have a wideband O2 right?

jerrah 11-16-2009 10:07 PM

Yeah I have the innovate LC-1.

I just completed a calibrate for AFR and set it to Wideband Innovate LC-1. I now have AFR's of either 10.4 or 7.8...

Ah, I remember having the exact same problem on a friend's car when we installed that wideband on his mspnp. I'll be buggered if I can remember how we fixed it, if we did....

jerrah 11-16-2009 11:40 PM

Well on close inspection I had the yellow narrowband wire connected instead of the wideband brown. I just fixed that but it now idles at 7.5 and flashes around to 22 when I blip the throttle. No amount of tweaking seems to change that.

Are you only reading your AFR's off of the laptop? Do you have a regular gauge?

jerrah 11-17-2009 07:33 AM

I don't have a guage, I'm using tuner studio.

Sounds like you're way too rich; try pulling a lot out of the VE table.

Saml01 11-17-2009 12:29 PM

Have you configured the LC1 using LMProgrammer to output the appropriate voltage range for the MS?

CRAIGO 11-17-2009 01:50 PM

Sounds like you need to do a full heater and free air recalibration and start over.

Also check that the WB output is programmed correctly. Default is fine.

jerrah 11-17-2009 07:43 PM

I'm going to try a free air calibration, check the output with the Innovate software and if that doesn't help pulling the VE's down.

I don't understand why Megalogviewer would be increasing the VE when the wideband is reporting rich.

jerrah 11-18-2009 08:02 AM

Free air calibration seemed to fix it right up. The numbers being produced now are more what I expected.

Thanks!

what should the target afr be at idle?

jerrah 11-18-2009 08:49 PM

I'm targeting 14 at idle.

With the sequential mod kit, it's not too hard to hit 14.7:1; without it, whatever idles the smoothest for you. Don't target a number, target where it idles best.

CRAIGO 11-19-2009 01:46 PM

I can idle well at 15.5:1 over that and things get lumpy. The smoothest is 13:1 for me, but I sit in too much traffic to waste that amount of fuel and when I logged AFRs on the stock ECU it was idling at pretty much ~15:1

WestfieldMX5 11-19-2009 03:51 PM

woops, wrong topic

jerrah 11-23-2009 01:46 AM

I did some road tuning over the weekend and now the car is running very smoothly. Much better than stock.

I basically kept doing logs in tunerstudio and then analyzing them through megalogviewer. A few values I've tweaked by hand but it's been pretty easy otherwise.
