Unable to connect DIYPNP

I recently got a used DIYPNP. I haven't been able to get any signs of life out of it. So far I've tried 2 different laptops, using an USB Serial adapter on both, and a serial cable on one of them. Is there any hope for this thing or did I get ripped off?

This is the cable I'm using:

Some pics of the ECU itself:

I've tried PortCheck

...and loading the firmware.

TunerStudio is also unable to detect any signs of life.

I've done a loopback test on the USB cable using Miniterminal inside TunerStudio and got it to echo. The test didn't work on the serial cable.

Any ideas?

Do you have power?

Just checked, getting just under 12v at pin 1A according to this diagram

Everything was working fine with the stock ECU by the way.

You were trying to connect to the ecu with the key on right?

Do you have power to 1B with the key on?

Where are you located? Someone local might be able to bring by a known good setup to help troubleshoot.

I've had problems connecting with certain common chipsets of USB/serial adapters. The market has been flooded with cheap cables which use crappy components. I believe a genuine FTDI adapter works.
Can you grab a screenshot of the device listing in your device manager where it shows the driver?

When I get home I'll try to figure out what exact cables I have. They're super long because I was tuning MR2s and the ECU is all the way in the back.

Would 1B be supplying power to the ECU or being powered by it? Do I check the harness or one of the leads on the ecu?

I've also noticed my check engine light doesn't come on with the key in the ON position. Is that triggered by the ecu or something else? Sounds like we're on the right track!

I know a few guys with running turbo Miatas so that's always an option, just trying to pinpoint the issue so I know what to try. Here are the drivers I'm using. I tried changing the baud rate, buffers, etc.

1B powers the ECU from the main relay.

1B supplies power, unplug the ECU and check for power from the harness.

CEL is triggered by ECU, I don't believe DIYPNP has CEL functionality.

I am having the same issue. I was able to connect with a direct serial connection but not on my laptop, keeps saying comm1 and comm 4 are busy or whatever. I have power, just no communication

pakmx5 06-05-2018 12:09 PM

In the pic you posted above make sure the Com port is set for 115200 baud rate under “General” or “Port Settings” i forget which

Matt R 06-06-2018 12:27 AM

Just checked now, I have power at 1B as well. That's all it should need to be able to communicate with the laptop, right?

I've tried changing the baud rate with both the USB and direct serial cables.

Anyone else have an idea?
