Unusual Westfield MS3 Pro Setup Questions

Hey I am trying to setup a MS3 pro with the Westfield adapter board. Due to the racing rules I am working under I have to use the stock AFM. I have a plan to get the AFM tuning done so this is not a thread about that. I have some basic questions on setting up the Westfield board.

1. Why remove the ST-SIG fuse? That fuse connects to pin 1c, and that 1c goes no where on the Westfield board. Is this a holdover from the instructions on the MSPNP.

2. I need 5v supply to pin 2k (5v power to the AFM). I believe setting the "TPS 5V" jumper to the 94-95 position would accomplish this. Moving the jumper off of the intended 90-93 position would kill 5v to 1n which goes to the TPS. I am not going to be using the TPS so I think might also be fine.

3. What is the difference between passive and active fuel pump control? I don't think either of the normal instructions work for me as I need to use pin 2o for the AFM airflow sensing. Can I just leave off all of the fuel pump wiring and let the AFM control the fuel pump? Does the stock ECU control priming at startup or the circuit opening relay?

1. removing the ST-SIG fuse is only needed when using the active high fuel pump circuit. The reason for this is tthat it would kill the TIP120. Only when not using the active high circuit, you may leave the fuse in place.
2. This is correct, but you can place a jumper to both holes if you need 5V on both 1N and 2K. The middle pin supplies 5V so you can connect it to either or both sides.
3. Active low (what I call passive) brings a ground FP signal out on pin 2O. Active high brings a 12V FP signal out on pin 1C.

I'll email you the updated build instructions if you let me know what board version you have.

Frank

Thank you for responding. I sent you an email but I will post here as well, I have a V3.1 board.

Do you have to actually use the signal from the AFM as input to the ECU, or does it just have to be physically mounted in the air intake? If the latter (the rules having it there as some sort of standardized air restrictor), you can just leave it in, maybe with a decorative cable attached, and go Speed-Density like a modern human.

Racing is about who can bend the rules the farthest without breaking them...

I'm fairly certain the rules don't allow him to run speed density. As in, you are not allowed to add any sensors or change the sensor type/style so adding a vacuum line and a map sensor are a no-no. And the same rules prohibit him from running a stand-alone ecu unless it can fit in the stock ecu case (hence Frank's board) or be a parallel installation. SCCA Solo ST rules.

Can you use the EGR-boost sensor as MAP sensor maybe?

Davidss 03-30-2017 11:40 AM

Thanks to Frank for the help.

I was able to get the car running on the AFM:

Thanks for the suggestions to everyone else. My racing rules are pretty strict. No MAP sensor is allowed, there is no workaround.

if he didnt have a 1.slow...

Congrats on getting it running. Very cool to see my board in someone else's car btw 😁.

Do they allow update/backdate? If so, I'd install a later model MAF. Flapper door AFM = Yuck

If not, I suspect you could update the TPS and run alphaN and get a better tune than the AFM.

No UD/BD in the class he is running and no adding sensors so no changing the TPS either.
