control panel>system>hardware>device manager>ports (COM & LPT)>
see which one is labeled as MS or serial to USB adapter, or whatever... chances are it will be the only one there besides 1 or 2. |

You used to be able to get the product form DIY autotune but it appears they removed it from their website.
http://www.dlpdesign.com/usb/txrx.shtml That is the unit you need to do the mod. I suggest if you plan to do this mod, socketing R232 or whatever chip it is closest to the DB9 Connector. However the easiest and most pain free USB-DB9 solution will be an external adapter. DIYautotune sells compatible ones. Don't try and buy a cheap one, they can damage the MS I believe. |
Yes ADbradley is the frigin man.

need drivers...see all the question marks...
|
Looks like you need a driver installed, or really 2 maybe 3 for multiple devices, but just one for the USB adapter. If it's our USB-2920 there was a CD that came with it, or you can right click the 'USB Serial Port' item right there in device manager and let XP update the driver from the internet and it should find it. Then it will display the com port there...

and it still no worky:
