Used MS PnP initial install

Okay, I did a search but couldn't find anything on this particular question. I know this sounds like a especially stupid noob question, but I don't want to screw everything up before I get started.

I bought a used MS. It was used on a system with a coldside SC. Some tuning was done previously. I'm going to assume he didn't set everything back before taking it off his car. So, it isn't the base map as far as I know.

I want to do this one step at a time, so I want to install the MS first, on my N/A car, before doing any other stuff. I've read and understand the initial procedure (setting the timing), but I assume that this is with the default base map factory fresh.

Will I have to flash the ECU with the base map before installing it? Do I use the procedure for "loading firmware" as specified in the manual before I start the car, and then just take it from there as normal? I DL the latest base map from the website. Also, is there a way to save the tune that is there (for future reference), or does it just overwrite the old one?

Thanks.

I don't have any good info because I myself am unknowledgable, but on my last car I accidentally flashed a SC map on my car while dyno tuning.

Spent 20 min trying to figure out why my car was idling at 2k and blowing big flames out the exhaust. Was a serious doh moment.

flashing is for changing firmware, you just need to change maps. Just power it up without starting the car, plug in the laptop, open the map you want, and it should prompt you to burn/save it. You might also want to unplug the igniter and coils just in case first. Ii am a beginner too, so you might want to confirm with a guru.

Assume NOTHING. Go to DIYAutotune's site, download the firmware and a basemap, reload the firmware, and reload a basemap. Start fresh so you don't piss yourself off when you load up a 029y3 map onto HR10G firmware and it gives you eleventy-billion errors and you have no idea WTF is going on.

just in case... flash your firmware to no-maf version and load base no-maf map. done.

That's step 2. For now, I just want to get it up and running.

The base map needs to match the firmware, that's why they are saying not to assume. I started from scratch, so I knew my map would match.
