VVT issue
I have messaged a few guys but haven't got a reply yet so hopefully you guys can help me out. I have a vvt motor swapped into 95 miata. Mostly stock only I/H/E
I am having vvt issues where when the vvt connector is plugged in then the car doesn't run properly. It won't idle and runs very rough if I hold at 2000 rpm. On tunerstudio the vvt angle would say 46 ish degrees. When the vvt connector is unplugged then it runs perfectly fine. settings on vvt are: no. vvts: 1 frequency: 511hz on/off or variable (PID): PID Adjust inj. timing based on: Cam 1 Commanded vs actual: Commanded test output: off Cam settings input: main cam polarity: falling edge (greyed out) Output: nitrous 2 min: 270 max: 319 int./exh.: intake More duty means: advance Control interval: synced to cam range check measured angles: yes PID parameters use hold duty: off P:50 I:17 D:130 Could it be settings or mechanical issus? (vvt oil valve/actuator ). I'm trying to bring the car to run properly so I can get it dyno tuned so any help would be great! |
I am fairly certain that it should not be advancing the intake cam at idle/low loads. First step would be to check your VVT target map and see if that is what is being commanded and then work from there.
A log file is always very useful. |

hmm I'm getting around 46 for vvt angle and it doesn't go any higher or lower unless the car is shut off. I don't think that vvt map will fix my issue does it?

Which MS3 build?
On my MS3 Basic the output is set to "VVT" and I had to perform the test procedure to find my max min absolute values (I'm more non-standard than most though). im new to this and i went with a PNP pro to support VVT in my 95 so im kinda shooting in the dark looking at what you have posted.
I would start by unplugging the connector for the VVT and seeing if it is getting a 12v then go an disable VVT in your programming and verify that it goes away. (if you have an oscilloscope you could look for modulation and know that the controller is working properly but this is easier) the way your log looks to me is that as soon as you are getting oil pressure you are getting max angle so the valve is always on. Hope this helps if it doesn't sorry :D |

Anyway should I just splice that 12v wire and connect it straight to the injector 12v? |
it sounds like it isnt wired right. i would check you control wire for continuity to ground. it sounds like it broke somewhere and it grounding out.

The VVT should always have +12v, if the car is on, as you are observing. The ECU grounds out the signal wire to make the solenoid "go"
As posted above check the signal wire to chassis ground with the car off. It should be open. |

Also, do you have your flyback diode installed? If I recall it is required for VVT.

Update: I found out the issue.
The vvt wire was grounded somewhere in the between the connector to ecu. It has been fixed. Thank you all! |
