well, now i can't trust these temp values

so, installed my 550's last night, and after a bit of fussing, got the car to fire up. same deal this morning. lil cranking settings tweaking, and it sparked to life at 53deg coolant temp.

took a nice long datalog of my mostly cruise throttle drive into work this morning and just tried to run the analyzer on it in MLV, and got a message saying that most of the log (99% or so) was filtered out because it was below the minimum clt reading.

looking at my logs, it looks like most of the drive was recording a 153 - 158 deg CLT reading.... it was a little chilly outside this morning, maybe low 50's... but that seems cold to me.

essentially, now i don't trust my CLT readings, and furthermore, wouldn't that sorta temp put me in perpetual warmup enrichment, since the 160 bin is where warmup hits 0 from like... 5...

always a fun project... :-)

between this and now having warm restart issues (haven't those been beaten to death yet?). wee!

home built MS? standalone or piggyback? R7 removed? what bias vaules? what resistance scale?

need all those answered to diagnose/solve your issue.

devin mac 05-08-2008 01:14 PM

yeah, i know ya do. i have a parallel that k1ngofl33t built back in the day, so i don't have a clue if r7 is there or not.

and i can't remember for the life of me what i used in easytherm last time when i upgraded firmware on the unit from 029q to 029v... i suppose it's possible i used the wrong values, but i'm FAIRLY certain i used the CLT settings from this thread:

-4F 16200
86F 2450
176F 384

If you have a l337 Ms then you need to take the case apart and see if R7 is installed. We can help better if we know if R7 is there or not.

devin mac 05-08-2008 01:18 PM

yeah. this might have to wait until next week, since the car is running and driving right now (if i sort the warm no-start) and my girlfriend's currently driving my 3 while her car gets fixed...

once that's done, if i rip the whole thing out and ship it to one of you guys, you wanna do the idle and ebc mods for me so i can run it standalone? :)

more seriously, i'll probably open it up tonite and take a look. i know the thing works, and doesn't have any major issues, since i've been running the car off it for a couple seasons now, and it has done fine boosted for several months.

I don't mind, feel free to pm me about it.

Braineack 05-08-2008 01:21 PM

Reflash it:

90-93: Use RX7 defaults for CLT and GM defaults for the AIT.
with R7 installed: Use 1280 for CLT and 1450 for AIT for the bias.
without R7: Use 2625 for CLT and 1450 for AIT for the bias

cjernigan 05-08-2008 01:24 PM

If l337 built it for a parallel install he surely left out R7 right? Didn't you have to fix one of l337s MS's Scott?

Braineack 05-08-2008 01:28 PM

im fairly certain he left it in. it was after he went on hiatus when we started pulling it.

since we were all using 2450 for the bias, it threw the temp scale off (2450 + 2625[parallel] = 1277 ohms). The actual bias is 2625, very close to the 2490 we were flashing the MS with, so when we removed r7 the temps we pretty much on scale.

my guess is you're right, since i ordered one assembled from DIY in early august '06, and essentially gave that to him as a core exchange for one he had already modified for me.

i'll reflash it as soon as i have a chance, since as i mentioned, i just don't trust it right now. that said, i might as well reflash with hires, at this point, huh?

cjernigan 05-08-2008 01:50 PM

Hi-res is worth the switch, just download 10g and easytherm that.

devin mac 05-11-2008 01:35 PM

well, that seems better. reflashed with the "R7 installed" bias value for CLT, and after driving around a bit and getting up to temp i saw about 186deg. now MLV won't bitch at me when i try to run the analyzer. :)
