WestfieldMX5 Guide GONE!

I want to apologize if this has been discussed previously (I didn't see anything), but after a recent visit to Frank's site, I was completely heartbroken to see that all that golden information was GONE!

I have no idea what the circumstances were that swayed Frank to remove his info, but I personally just wanted to give my sincere thanks to him for sharing his wealth of information to the last few of us who still build their own Megasquirts.

I truly hate to see this information removed, with the how to guides on this site being so out dated, it is a real shame to see the one good site gone.

This would have gone through a PM but I see Frank has that disabled.

Is there anything I(we) can do to get this travesty resolved?

FRT_Fun 09-28-2013 04:38 PM

Already a thread, and parts of a few threads, about it.

There was a butthurt match between him and another member on some other forum.

Result is we all suffer.

But in the end it's his site, and he can do what he wants with it.

I probably wouldn't have made it this far this quick with my MS3x build if it wasn't for him so I owe him a lot.

I doubt it will get resolved as he states it's down forever.

I'll be making a MS3x specific site eventually using 100% my material (note: nothing derived specifically from frank's site).

But yea, sucks overall since brain as far as I know hasn't updated his site.

you can definitely use BRAIN'S 96-96 wiring diagram that I sent to frank after editing it to put on his site if you want. It was a shame it went down

Braineack 09-29-2013 03:30 PM

We should start a petition to peer pressure frank into putting it back.

Isn't there some google cache thingy out there that the computer savvy know about to find old things that have been removed from the interwebs? Going from some hazy memory so I might be completely off base.

I don't know the web address to "Frank's site" or I'd have looked it up for you:

Internet Archive: Wayback Machine

you can find the cached files, but I don't think it has the pictures

I had all the cached docs, but lost them when I forgot to transfer them to my external drive when I did my bi-montly OS reinstall. I took enough pictures and notes that I can create some updated MS3x stuff, although it's all for a 93 w/ 1.6.

Someone posted somewhere they got all the google cached docs, forgot what thread though.

Frank! Hear our prayers! Don't let the injustice of the few take away what you shared with the masses!

If a donation is required, just tell me where/how!

I pulled all the pages down off Google cache. A bunch of images are missing. This is a link to a zip of all the stuff I pulled down.

Not sure why this matters since he compiled information from other places to build his site.

Braineack 09-30-2013 10:57 AM

I collaborted with Frank to help him with the Ms3x stuffs.

Which is why it's a pretty selfish and petty thing to do to just remove it entirely without giving someone else the chance to host it or work out some sort of transition. He works with the community to provide a resource, but then when one person complains about his content being used without permission, instead of resolving that issue he just removes everything, not only wasting his own time, but that of others who helped.

Braineack 09-30-2013 11:32 AM

The whole incident that he pulled it over was stupid and selfish.

Agreed, that aspect was ridiculous as well.

Is this an opportunity for something new and better?

Wiki anyone? Eliminate the "intellectual property" BS by making it open source from the start. There's a huge number of write ups on this site that would make good articles with little or no editing. But, what was really useful about Frank's site (I think) was the tutorialish step by step instructions. Scott has already put together a lot of that....

I'd be happy to pay whatever monthly/yearly fees are required to buy a domain name and keep it hosted forever. (No ads, free for everyone forever.) But I am not in a position to accept heavy responsibilities for content. That needs to be shared as much as possible.

Harv 09-30-2013 01:13 PM

Didn't somebody kinda do the open/wikie thing already here?

There you go! The only thing wrong with that wiki is that it lacks content. But who's fault is that?

Brain, you have a lot of good material that disappeared when you lost squatter's rights. Here's a new home. Plus anything that you collaborated with Frank on is probably fair to put up.

What do we need to reproduce the functionality of Franks site? Let's make a list; we'll bring the stuff together and put it somewhere that's guaranteed not to disappear (or get sold for the price of a set of tires from Wal*Mart.)
