dude if you can tune a bipes and a or a fmu then you can tune a MS the same changes apply it's just done with a keybaord. The base maps we have out there are pretty good, and can be made to work with your car, just as fluidly as a profesional tune. All it takes is time, and abit of attention.

I'll tell you why I'm afraid...I don't want to blow a coil. It seems like everyone has blown them at least once. I don't want to switch to COPS.

I've got a 1.6, so hopefully it won't blow as easily.

i havent blown a coil yet! **knocks on wood**

most of the coil problems have been from flukes and bad settings.

I blew mine because I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing. COPs isn't that hard and really isn't that expensive either.

Or you could get an MSPNP. But make sure you unplug the ignitor when if you do a reflash. :)

hustler 01-05-2008 08:13 PM

I have Down's and tuned MS. You can do it. I almost blew up my ignitor last week when I updated firmware, but remembered half way through the flash, so i'm cool.

You're going to have a bunch of questions just like everyone else the first time. I relied heavily on 2 people from this board to help me out. Sometimes it took some hand-holding on their part, and I was really annoying, but its pretty much all figured out now in naturally aspirated trim.

If you buy the stuff I'll give you my email, aim sn, and phone # and answer any question I can to help you the same way others helped me. I was never frustrated to the point of throwing my hands up in the air, and never thought buying MS was a mistake.

I love watching the local try to figure out whats wrong with all their piggy back crap, when all I have to do is plug in, which I don't anymore considering the car is "tuned" as of today. You will need a couple hours on a dyno to tune the spark maps, but you can still get everything else close, just not make max power.

Even if you do, blow a coil they are cheap and easy to come by.

i learned how to tune mine at the track. here is what i did:
i datalogged my runs on track and then tuned out anything i didnt like at the pit
if i heard any knocking then i would note at what rpm range and conditions and would either richen out that area of map, give it less timing, or both

Hey just a quick update and a question. I paid Braineack for the MS. I got the works besides the Knock sensor and 4 bar map. I also bought an LC1 with G2 gauge and a set of 4 red top rx7 460cc injectors. So it looks like I'm all set. To bad my car is apart right now. I sprung a mystery coolant leak today. I looks like it is leaking behing the head on the driver side so i think it's a heater hose. I have the turbo and manifold off and i made the relief cuts in my manifold. I only ran the manifold for maybe 500 miles without the cuts so i think i got it in time. I'm also going to fab up a good old set of hockey puck engine mounts while i have it apart.

Question:
Does the ait sensor kit that im getting with my MS come with a bung that needs to be welded or threaded into my IC pipes? I have the Jim B pipes with a starion FMIC so im pretty sure they are steel and not aluminum.

Good Choice!
