Wideband: Analog vs Digital (CAN) MS3PnP Pro

Hey everyone,

Sorry if this isn't the right section. Since I'm connecting the wideband to the MS3, I figure this might be a good place for it?

I've been soaking up as much as I can about MS3 tuning and planning my VVT swap. I did have one silly question though that my Google Fu doesn't seem to find a good answer for. I have found a bunch of posts about digital vs analog wideband displays... but not too many about the actual controller/sensor.

Is a CAN Bus (Digital) wideband that much more desirable than an analog? On paper it seems it... bandwidth, accuracy, calibration, etc. I was wondering if for a simple VVT swap (no plans for FI or making crazy power) if a CAN wideband is overkill?

I'm leaning towards buying one (Spartan 3) since it does appear the benefits are there. But was just wondering what others thought. Is it worth $100 more than its analog option?

Thanks!

You can get a AEM 39-0310 direct for $175. Controller with sensor and CAN. Plug and play.

I am am using analog, but you have to use offset values and verify. If I were going new, I’d do the above.

Thanks for the alternative choice! That is definitely a good option! I've read that the AEM CAN devices require some alternate configurations... but doesn't seem that hard to do.

Part of me doesn't want a gauge for a clean install and I don't want to stash it in the glove box. So having a non-gauge option is nice.

Yeah, there are a few settings you have to change in your tune to use CAN. The AEMs use a different CAN protocol, but as long as it's the only device on the bus you won't have to worry about it. I connected mine this way, and it works great.
