Will the car even run at 4:1 AFR?

So, ive gotten my BEGi S1 installed and the car starts. I also put in 460cc injectors. However, my wideband is reading around 4:1 AFR. Is this even possible or should i be tracking down problems with the wideband? It was reading like this BEFORE i did the turbo install and put the injectors in. So now that im typing this im leaning more towards a setting problem. Anyway, any input would be appreciated.

I don't think it would run. IF it did you would have fuel pouring out of your exhaust.
Sounds like you need to check your wb / wiring.

wes65 03-08-2008 09:55 AM

yeah, i will have to hook my laptop up to the wideband to see what it says. That way i can find out of it is a MS problem or a wideband problem. Oh, this HAS worked before. It worked for several thousand miles. It stopped working after i had the battery unhooked and i was trying to put in 460cc injectors that i found out didnt work anyway. Could raw fuel on the wideband hurt it?

its only raw fuel on a VERY sensitive sensor, whats the worse that could happen?

Splitime 03-08-2008 10:21 AM

Which wideband do you have? Most won't even read that low.

wes65 03-08-2008 10:38 AM

sorry, its the LC-1, i shouldve said that. anyway, i went in and reset all the settings on the wb to factory defaults. Now it is reading 7.4:1 all the time. Im guessing that means that im not getting any voltage from it since that is what 0v is set to.

3barboost 03-08-2008 11:19 AM

your lc1 config is wrong
take sensor out exhaust and recalibrate at a start

nester 03-08-2008 12:45 PM

lol. if you're running at 4:1, change your oil soon. ;) Wash down the cylinders, scour the walls, and spin a bearing. :o

wes65 03-08-2008 03:16 PM

okay, now the lc-1 stays in warmup mode forever. I let it go for around 10-15 minutes and it was still blinking about 2x per second. Does this mean i have a bad sensor?

bryantaylor 03-08-2008 09:59 PM

LOL, another thread about crappy a LC-1. do what i did, sell it and buy a AEM. i am still rocking the same sensor it came with and have ZERO problems, works perfect every time.

ArtieParty 03-08-2008 10:03 PM

+1 on the AEM

richard_ha 03-08-2008 10:04 PM

Pretty sure the AEM and LC-1 use exactly the same sensor anyway.

Cars usually stall at 9:1. Are you sure the gauge is not reading in Lambda mode? My XD-16 can, but i am not sure about the DB gauges. Either way, a recalibration is probably in order. You need to do it after the car has sat all night though.

im stuck with this crappy lc-1 too...same deal...7:4 and it will change occasionally...i pulled the sensor out to calibrate but it blinked forever!!!...then i plugged it in again and same thing...i just dont know whats up?...

3barboost 03-09-2008 01:39 AM

I got an LC 1 and it also gave me grief

I sorted thr grounds out and that helped and then I sorted out that "little plug" the 2.5mm ear phone type jack
if you got bad grounds or inconsistent grounds or a ground that other devices use the lc 1 is way to sensitive to problems on grounds in my view
the actual sensor is hardly ever the cause of the problems - that little ear phone style terminator is a pain and half the time its plugged into the wrong connection !
read the lc 1 instructions I did and it made a difference the aem is a pleasure in comparision - I am not an instructions kinda guy and I dont think any of us are

nester 03-09-2008 02:56 PM

If you think it's your sensor, you might try a new one. VW dealer will sell you one, they run about $70-80, depending on how nice you are.. ;) The part number is listed on Innovate's forum.

nope

wes65 03-09-2008 05:31 PM

ive done the open air calibration but i will redo it along with a heater calibration and see where that takes me. I wont be able to do it until the weekend though, work+school=no free time during the week.

Thanks for the help!

Yes and no... they're both Bosch LSU sensors, but they used different connectors.
