Wiring for sequential injection
 
I'm currently finishing up my 1.8 into 91' swap. I sold the 1.6 as a whole, so I'm using everything 1.8 - ignitors, injector harness, etc.

The 1.8 injector harness already has individual signal for each injector. Eventually I'll be using sequential injection, so I want to keep the individual signal wires for the injectors.

I looked at the wiring diagram and it looks like I can just use 1 wire from the ignitor and 1 wire from the purge solenoid valve (removed it).

TLDR: look at the diagrams and tell me if it'll work:


stock 91 wiring:

the main thing would be making sure the wires can flow the current.

Ok, bad idea then. Because those are considerably thinner than the other injection wires.

I have a 1.6 and I'm hoping to use the Y and Z pins although your schematic shows pin Z as being used for the transmission?

I assume that the harness on my car doesn't have wires for these pins so I headed down to pick a part and pulled the loom out of a Subaru legacy, it uses the same 76 pin connector as my DIYPNP so I can fit the Y and Z wires from this plug and could make a custom loom with the extra plugs.

The wires on these pins from the Subaru loom look to be heavy enough for injectors.

Interestingly the manual I have shows that Californian models use pins Y and Z for sequential injection.

I worked on the MS wiring harness and my car doesn't have wires the Y and Z pins.
Good idea on the Subaru harness, if you figure out how to pull the pins out. My car is a 91 though. California edition is what, 93?

Correct 93 CA 1.6Ls came with seq. Fuel.

I sacrificed one of my Subaru connectors to demonstrate how to remove the pins in case anyone is interested:

The tool that I used is a little screwdriver of the type you might use for repairing glasses.

I looked up the list of compatible cars on the DIYPNP N76 page before heading to pickapart so I had a fairly good idea of what I was looking for.

Happily someone must have been looking for a 76pin Subaru ecu because they'd done most of the work for me

actually you're doing it backwords. Just use a paperclip and insert it from the side of the wiring into the connector. Push it through the 'dubble loop' where the pin is crimped onto the wiring and the pin will come out just like that.

I tried doing it that way at first because that's how it usually works, but I couldn't get a paper clip into the connector from the back. If you look at how it is crimped to the wire, the legs that grip the insulation are very high.
