WTF? Mapdot and dashpot, etc etc

What ARE all of those? Everyone who has a clue talks about them like they are no big deal, then I sit around here feeling dumb. What are they, what do they do, how do they work.... etc?

Mapdot and TPSdot are acceleration enrichments. So you can add fuel on tip in to improve throttle response. Get's rid of that lean tip in loss of power.

but, why "dot"? Also, the MAP-based decel on MS-II beta is lame, way too aggressive. Get lower MAP for ONE data point and it thinks it's deceling? One of those things I will mess with later.

My bike, the turbo, had a broken accelerator pump for a while, and with the choke removed, the only way I could start it was taking a syring, blowing in the accel pump cyl, and watching it squirt fuel into the turbo, when it was full, it was like a enrichment circuit all on it's own, till it finally all evaporated awa...

Damnit, too drunk to handle the responsibility of a keyboard.

What kind of bike was it? I've never seen a motorcycle carb with an accel pump..

"dot" signifies derivative; they respond to changes in TPS/MAP

AbeFM 02-11-2008 12:42 PM

Ok, "derivative over time" makes more sense then. Somehow, I had the picture of the little green "dot" on the map, and figured there was some difference between where dot was and what cell you were in, maybe a hysterises or something.

The bike is a KZ-1000, the carb is an old old Zenith carb, which was kinda a 1950's update to a 1920's design. It really only had one thing going for it, aside from fitting and being able to supply 250 hp of fuel: The main jet was thumbscrew adjustable, so you could "tune" just by reaching under the tank and twisting.
