100% Meth
Anyone in the Miata community running 100% methanol yet or is everyone still using a 50/50 mixture?
|
There is a thread that's going on that someone had there WI nozzle had disintegrated the screen.
You get your bung welded? I haven't got a call from Andre yet. |
No one that I know of in the Miata community, but my EVO buddy uses 100% meth in his Aquamist kit and swears by it.

I'll be down at the shop either Monday or Tuesday and will ask Andre. |
Tie downs? I was going to use some straps and screw them to the trunk so its nice and tight. You could use a belt :giggle:

im using about an 20 water 80 meth right now with no problems. it actually works great

Why?
I mean, if your injectors are undersized and you need to add fuel that's one thing, but in terms of cooling, the specific heat capacity of water is about 4.12 kJ/kg/°C vs. only 1.40 kJ/kg/°C for Methanol. |
Injector issues is none existant. Its the octane bump that he wants. Right now he runs race gas and needs some more timing for cheap!

You are a genius and I know that so that said; the cooling capacity of the liquid is based on how fast it evaporates because evaporation is the process that causes cooling so why would the one that evaporates faster not cool more? I just alwats though that if it evaporated faster it cooled better. "Changing liquid at one temperature to vapor at the same temperature, requires that the "latent heat of vaporization" be supplied from somewhere. This energy comes from the surface that is doing the evaporating." Question - Evaporation is different in different liquids why is this? Also why does evaporation cause a cooling effect? The evaporation of a liquid depends upon its vapor pressure -- the higher the vapor pressure at a given temperature the faster the evaporation -- other condition being equal. The higher/lower the boiling point the less/more readily will a liquid evaporate. The amount of energy required to convert one mole of liquid to one mole of vapor, the more energy is required for evaporation. You can find some interesting trends in these behaviors by perusing a handbook such CRC/s Handbook of Chemistry & Physics. Water is a unique liquid with regard to its vaporization properties. It must absorb ~10 k.cal/mol of heat at 25 C to convert one mole = 18 gm = 18 ml of water to vapor and of course must release the opposite amount of heat for the opposite process. |
Which would have more knock suppressing capabilities when adding timing? 100% water(cooling), 100% methanol(octane), or a combination?

I plan on running 100% meth on my system. I have a bunch of old Nitrous nozzles, Selenoids and jets and I plan on using them to inject the meth into my intercooler pipe.
I just need to get a nice big tank and a meth safe pump. I want it for the extra Octane and cooling... |
Well, I went and got 2 gallons of methanol put into a 5 gallon fuel jug. I'm going to start with a mixture of 2 parts meth and 1 part water and see if it gets me to where I want to be.
Then I really started to think about this some more, is all methanol created equal? Since I'm using this more as a power adder than a safety net, this concerns me a little bit. |
We are having the exact same disscussion on my local forum.
100% Meth isn't something to be just fucking around with. There's some god info in the thread and I'll link it incase anyone wants a read. |

So, if you look at the meth as a secondary fuel source and tune accordingly, it makes a lot of sense. But if you're like me, and a lot of the members here, you're using the WI as cooling and extra insurance against detonation. If none of that makes sense, I'm sorry, been drinking a bit today. |
You're right about there being two different groups of people running water/meth injection. I'll come out and say it, I plan on using the meth as a power adder. I've done all I can do on 92 octane pump gas and I need more.

100% Water all the way...
