Looking into water injection

Ok so I have a 96 project that is almost through phase one mild port and polish, 3 angle, 4-1 header, 2.5 straight exhaust, no afm, mega squirt 2, fresh "stock" rebuild, stock injectors. It's all going back together now.

No idea what kinda power I will end up with, but I wanted to break in and get to know mega squirt on a non boosted motor. But I need to start looking toward phase 2. Boost and water. I have messed with it on jet skies but never on cars I liked the result.

I am thinking maybe a smaller turbo with injection would be able to get me to the peak of stock internals with a lot less lag. The car is strictly for autox and track use pulled on a trailer . Any thoughts on the subject? Suggestions?

If you think water injection is going to help lag you need to do more reading.

Maybe that came out wrong.
Get more out of a smaller turbo that will spool up faster than a larger one that spooled up slower without meth/water to get the same end power gain of FI

You can max out a stock 1.8 with a GT2560r and still hit full boost at 3.5k rpms with a good manifold/downpipe/exhaust setup.

if you're tracking the car, I'd suggest a mid sized turbo that will keep the heat down instead of a tiny snail that will glow cherry red in about 20 seconds.
you can retain good lowend response and torque by running a well flowing setup

Water/Meth is not going to help lag at all but will cool intake charges from the boost allowing more power that way.

Waiting until 3500rpms for full boost on a lot of autocross courses sucks.
