I'm researching water/meth injection as an alternative to adding an intercooler when I bump a stock greddy setup up to 8 psi - this would save weight and avoid the pressure drop from the long tubing and IC. Both +'s. I'm just worried about the chance of running out of water and thought that maybe a simple aftermarket fuel level gauge could be adapted to show the water level in the tank for the washer fluid tank.
What do you guys think / would this be difficult to do? With the ability to see the level from the driver's seat, you would never have to worry about unknowingly running out of water any more than you would have to worry about accidentally running out of gas...

And a side question: roughly how long does it take to go through a washer fluid container's worth of water/meth mix? Is this a fill every two days thing or daily or weekly?

the ABS cars have a bigger washer fluid tank in the front bumper. it has a low level indicator. lights up in the gauge cluster.

Depends on how much your boosting and injecting. Float switches, if your not afraid of very simply wiring is the way to go.

That covers the non-ABS equipped NA cars. Like paul said, the ABS cars, on account of their hidden bottle, already have an indicator.

Loki's pretty much got it in terms of tank longevity. If you've just got a sedate highway commute, then a washer bottle will last you a full tank of fuel. If your daily drive is all city, all hills, then expect to fill it every couple of days.

Thanks guys. I would prefer to do a gauge as opposed to a warning light - it's much more informative to have a level indicator to always be able to monitor instead of hoping the light will turn on to warn - if water injection is instead of an intercooler and the bulb for the light goes out and you forget to pop the hood and visually check one day, boom no motor. This is why I'm considering a gauge.

I can do any wiring that's no problem.
What are float switches?
I thought I would find several fuel level gauges on summit racing but they've only got fuel pressure gauges. I'm sure they've got to make aftermarket fuel level gauges - anyone know where one can be found?

Seriously? What do guys use for a fuel gauge for race cars that have a custom tank and the stock dash/gauges removed? There's got to be a fuel level gauge with some sort of sensor/sender unit.... no?

It works with any 240/33 ohm empty/full fuel gauge and is adjustable for depth...

ok thats pretty much what i had in mind, but you will most likely have to shorten the arm and get a float that is more buoyant

I'm giong to have to do a bit more research and asking of annoying questions before I decide wether to go with IC or water injection but if I do go this route I'll be experimenting with this gauge/sender.

Do you know how much those tanks are from Mazda? I'm quite sure we don't have any ABS equipped NA fives in Australia.

The tank sounds ideal, I don't really want to run **** all the way from the boot.

Perhaps more importantly, has anyone actually measured the capacity of the ABS-style water bottle? Unless it's significantly larger than the US-spec LBS-style bottle, I think you will find its capacity to be insufficient.

I did so to use two of them as reservoirs for my a/w Intercooler.

Compared to the normal miata water bottle, it's really big, it's actually the size of your trunk mounted reservoir tank :-)

I'ts got a capacity of 5.5l or 1.2gal!

so I'd say, along with the low level indicator, it's an ideal WI reservoir, easy to refill and it doesn't take space away in your enginecompartment or trunk
