..And some details:

This is the main tank, on the driver side.
Filling is done into this one, and it is connected to the second one on the passenger side.

And the pump...

Right below the utility tray on the left side..

I cut and modified the tray to make it quite a bit shallow to accomodate the pump.

Here's how the trunk looks with close to 3 gallons of water!

And, the modified utility tray..

I left the teflon tape in there on purpose for the photo, to illustrate the depth of the tray..

It was a quick silicone and rivet job with cut and folded PVC for the new bottom..

Looks great. I have 2 different WI kits of a sort in my garage... and yet never find the time or motivation to install either. Probably a big factor is that my IC is so damn huge I don't get any hot air into the engine. Some day I'll just do the install for the hell of it though, some day.

Thanks..

My problem is with the crappy gas - which, incidentally happens to be the most expensive damn gas in the whole world - rather than IAT issues.. Very happy with it.

Yes! And I do not like it. My new DO recirculating shurflow is like this; the hoses go right into the pressure head. My old 150 psi pump (switch regulated) had fittings that I had nice DO 90 deg swivels on. Definitely more adaptable. I still got the new pump to work as-is with a little hose rerouting. But for someone with a really tight space it might not be so nice.

Free water for my water injection system!

The A/C produces almost 3 gallons of water every day. I have been collecting it from three A/C units for a few days now, and have close to 80 liters already, which is more than 20 gallons.
This is the only side benefit of the incredibly hot and humid summer we have been having, so far.

In soviet istanbull water frees you?

Is water expensive in your area? Here we just turn on the tap.

One of the pluses of living in Vancouver, our water is rated as the cleanest in North America and equal to distilled water for purposes like this.

I need to figure out how to do this at my school.

This is a very nice setup, I'll end up using this in the future if I follow suit.

Few questions though, do you have the bottoms of those tanks at an angle to help with the draining? I can just see the fluid getting to 1/4 full and not getting to the pump anymore..

And how long do you go before refills?

Godless Commie 04-20-2011 01:03 PM

The tank bottoms are flat, I just take advantage of the sloshing effect :)

As for refills, up to three days on some occasions. There are times when I return home on empty in just a day.
A sane driver would drive for almost a week on that water.

Just a quick update about EGT:

The highest EGT I was able to record after several hard and long pulls was 800C.
I did about 5 pulls from about 2600 rpm all the way to redline, shifting from 3rd, to 4th and 5th.
I suppose the system works.

Godless Commie 04-17-2013 04:31 PM

Update:

I was using 4 63cc nozzles on my progressive setup.

After the rebuild and the extensive porting/polishing, I decided to use a "huge" crank pulley for a 150/65 mm ratio, giving me about 16.5 psi.

Available water was just not enough after these changes. And that manifested itself in the form of detonation above the 8 psi level recently with my rather aggressive advance table.

A set of 126 cc nozzles (with a combined capacity of 8 gal/hr) and ramping the max flow up to 16 psi solved the problem.

Power is good.

Where did you run the lines from the boot to the engine bay?

I drilled a hole in the left most compartment of the trunk where the pump is located, and run the water line under the car, parallel to the fuel lines. It comes up on the firewall behind the intake manifold, and the rest is a check valve and splitters...

What size line from the tank to the front? could you add a chiller or ice to the tanks? What about using hard line? I dont like the idea of ruining my bay with tons of soft hoses going everywhere.

The line from the tank to the front is 1/4" hard plastic in protective shielding.
There is no need to chill the water. It boils and turns to steam instantly, stealing considerable energy in the process. Room temp, chilled, 60C degrees will not make a difference in the combustion chamber.
You could use a hard line if you like, but the hard plastic works flawlessly.

And yes, I did ruin my engine bay with plastic lines...
