Default what are your thoughs on Proparts methanol kit?

so im starting to get all the pieces to my puzzle and with out a doubt i want to do a methanol kit. I saw this proparts kit offered in jegs catalog it looks pretty bad *** but i want your opinions on how practical you think it is. This kits comes with a EGT gauge and you can set the methanol to kick in when a desired EGT temp is reached, it also can be set up as a turbo timer. the kit comes with a programble EGT gauge, methanol kit and accesories its kind of pricey though 769.00 bucks

heres a link to it
http://propartsllc.com/waterMethanol...php?subCatID=5

i like the fact that it kills 3 birds with one stone for me, you get a EGT gauge, turbo timer, and a methanol kit.

i was also reading about someone who had the set up on his MS and he set it to change maps when low pressure was detected thats a kool fail safe i would like to do as well.

just would like others opinions
thanks

Greetings, newb. That is a lucid, intelligent, well thought-out question.

I've never heard of this particular kit, however $770 seems horribly expensive to me for a system that uses PWM motor control. At that price level, you're getting very close to an Aquamist system, which uses a rather nice solenoid valve to modulate delivery of the water/alcohol.

I'm also bothered by the fact that they don't seem to discuss nozzle sizing anywhere (one size does not fit all), nor do they include a checkvalve, which is a pretty basic part for this sort of install. I get the impression of a company which has put too much effort into fluff and marketing (like multi-color LED backlit displays) and not enough into meaningful engineering and customer education.

Have you looked at Devil's Own? http://www.alcohol-injection.com/wat...tage-2-12.html

That kit gives you essentially the same functionality (less EGT and tank) for a paltry $330.

I really don't see EGT being a valuable parameter in controlling WI. For starters, EGT sensors have considerable latency. But more importantly, I like to think of WI as being a predictive system (rather than a reactive system), responding to MAP to prevent temperatures from rising dramatically in the first place.

i was also reading about someone who had the set up on his MS and he set it to change maps when low pressure was detected thats a kool fail safe i would like to do as well.
Thanks. So I take it you're planning to go MS?

thanks for the input! i would love to get more info on how you did your set up. im kind of a lurker here no miata but soon a festiva with a built bpt. it curently has a b6t. i will check out that kit. my next purchase will hopefully be a ms set up. let me ask i know its kind of off topic but i would like to run a edis set up do you think i should just get a miata harness and try to convert my car to edis with that? or just source out a edis 4 module? ive seen a few miatas in jyard and have been tempted to grab a harnes but i dont know if any plugs with fit. i know the protege and escorts have the most compatibility with the bpt. thanks

Uh, I'm running EDIS4... If you want a rev limiter, launch control, flat shift, etc, EDIS will not support it as you can't cut spark.(unless you do fuel cut, but you don't wanna do that) If you are planning to run megasquirt, I suggest letting MS fire the coils. But the VR sensor and trigger wheel from the EDIS system is a great upgrade.

BP Festiva FTW! Pics or ban.

Well, I thought it was pretty well-documented in the writeups:

No Miata ever used EDIS from the factory. The stock system consisted of a 4/2 dual-wheel cam driven pickup from '90-'97 or seperate cam (2 tooth) and crank (4 tooth) pickups from '98-'05. These went to the ECU, which then triggered the coils.

Frankly, I don't much care for EDIS anyway. Nothing wrong with it, it's just un-needed complexity. If you're going to go MS, just wire whatever sensors your car already has directly into the MS, and drive the coils directly from the MS. Having that level of control makes things easier. My current setup is a 36-1 crankwheel with a Ford VR sensor, however it's driving the MS directly, I have no EDIS module. Click the link in my sig fo details.

I figure I should clarify a few things from my earlier reply.

I ignored the subect of turbo timers as I consider them non-critical. If you have a proper water-cooled turbo, you really won't have cooldown woes. Even with my non watercooled Mitsu turbo, I just take it easy for the last mile or so and let it cool down while I remove y seatbelt, raise the top (if raining), get my laptop off the floor, etc., and then shut it down.

On the subject of EGT gauges: I have one, and I find that I don't really ever use it. Back when I was learning to fly, we used the EGT gauge for setting cruise mixture at altitude (carbeurated airplanes actually have a mixture lever right on the dashboard, next to the throttle.) But nowadays, we have WBO2 AFR gauges which are a thousand times faster and more accurate. I personally consider it superfluous.
