WI and upped boost on stock internals ?

Sooo I'm wondering - can you up boost on NB motor to say 16 or so using Wi +IC or is this pushing internals too much ? Whats safe with NB and WI in terms of boost levels on stock internals ? I guess the real question here is does the WI counteract increased boost in terms of pushing boost higher w/o needing to build the motor ? I've been generally told not to exede 12 or so lbs of boost on stock internals..

The limitation for any engine is not so much a particular amount of boost but rather a particular amount of torque. Pressure inside the chamber pushing down on the piston is what kills rods. It just so happens that with a "typical" intercooled NB setup, this power level tends to occur somewhere in the general vicinity of 12PSI.

All else being equal, adding water injection will increase the density of the air charge for a given boost pressure, thus increasing the power of the engine. Therefore, ironically, you will actually lower the "safe" boost threshold for the engine, since it will be producing more power at a given manifold pressure than before.

Soo basically a wash on using WI and IC on stock internals? You'd have to lower the boost to make up for the power increase and find a safe level that would probably be the same power level or similar to what you were running prior to adding WI? So now I'm curious how guys are pushing the 250hp limit w/o breaking things on stock NB motors? Or are they pushing it and it's just shortening the life of the motor substantially ?

with a good tune you should be fine. I doubt 250 lbft is gonna breack things on a NB if the tune is good. But if you are trucking along at 250 and you get abit of knock etc then your shit will more than likely get abit fubarred. Also when running WI you will want to run abit leaner than with IC, and abit more timming or you will not make as much power. Most of the issues i have seen with high boost and a good tune are with accelerated ring wear other than that you should be fine look at Y8's and Airbrush both running more than 250 whp and doing it very well.
