any modding or can they just be dropped in?

Hot_Wheels 05-29-2011 07:27 PM

OT someone school me why these can ONLY be used with hlas. Ive got solids, understand how they work and this makes no sense at all to me.

So I'm guessing this will work on my 99 head?

Don't believe so, he said 94-97 and I just looked up the specs on the Mazdaspeed cam to compare and they say 99-00 so it would appear that they're different.

i thought i read some where you couldn't use these with solid lifters, but from my few minutes of searching i might be wrong,
http://www.clubprotege.com/forum/sho...ight=solid+hla

ill keep searching to see if i can find a more detailed explanation,

You cant use solid lifter cams with hlas due to the solid cams lifting the valve far faster and harder, pushing all the oil out of the hla. Not the other way around.

That doesn't explain why solid cannot use hydraulic, though.

Chances are the base circle is too large, which means once you put solid lifters in and measure for shims the shim distance will be extremely small. You could always have the tips in the solid lifter machined down a bit. Also the opening and closing ramps are much more mild for hyd. lifters. You could make them work, but they won't be ideal.
