Hey guys,
Who needs a bracket to hold their COPs down? I have (3) brackets ready to go. Designed to hold Denso cops to a 1.6 cam cover. Bolts down to cam cover using existing hardware, and requires NO MODIFICATION to your car. Made of 1/8" aluminum bar. Includes the bar, 4 studs, and 4 acorn nuts. First 3 for $40 shipped each, including shipping to lower 48 and paypal fees. I am considering spraying them all black, so please specifiy if you'd prefer black or natural aluminum.

Thats what i was going to say, but I was going to wait to see what the driveshaft cost, i didnt want either one of us getting screwed.

Ben 10-02-2007 04:27 PM

I needed that driveshaft pretty bad.

Ben you need to borrow a 1.8 valve cover to make the 1.8 COPs holdown plate? Also anybody selling COPs?

Ben 10-02-2007 05:38 PM

No--I have a 1.8 cover coming. I'll offer a 1.8 bracket probably within 2 weeks.

the coils are pretty easy to find on car-part.com or ebay. i got 2 sets from LKQ (found them with car-part).

I need a PNP version :bigtu:

Ben 10-02-2007 05:48 PM

not happening on 94 and newer unless you can find connectors that plug into the original coil harness.
90-93 is doable (like mine). but it's time consuming.

Mach929 10-02-2007 08:10 PM

i'll take one, and that harness too

supra441979 10-02-2007 08:34 PM

PM Sent!

Ben 10-02-2007 10:18 PM

got the pm's
I have one more 1.6 plate remaining at $40.

gauging interest in the 1.8 plate now. I have 2 I need to build so far. Anyone else?

supra441979 10-03-2007 08:33 AM

I'll take one for 1.8

Ben 10-03-2007 08:37 AM

I can also offer a complete 1.6 coil on plug conversion for $175. That includes a complete PNP wiring harness with clips on one end and a gutted igntior on the other and the hold down assembly. Get your own coils from ebay. denso 90080-19015

Loki047 10-03-2007 08:50 AM

How much for just the plugs?

Ben 10-03-2007 08:50 AM

what plugs?

TurboTim 10-03-2007 08:52 AM

I may be interested in a 1.8 bracket, not definite though. I want to build one but for around $40 it may not be worth it. More pics of the plate off the car would be nice.

The connectors to the COPs

Ben 10-03-2007 10:00 AM

loki,
they're about $20/set for the shells and then a buck for the pins. p/n and ordering info in the archives

tim,
i'll get some pics when i can

y8s 10-03-2007 10:32 AM

note to whoever makes their own connector harness: you'll probably want to dremel a little bit of pin material off so the pins actually lock into the toyota connector housings. I noticed theres about 60-70 thou too much material on the top portion of the pin to lock in place. ummm i'll reply with a badly drawn diagram.

ta da.

Braineack 10-03-2007 11:00 AM

that's good to know. only two of mine pulled out ever....so I filled the connector with blue siliconed from behind and used super glue. Never had a real problem with them. Also helped make it more weatherproof.

I still have plenty of these pins leftover! like 366 to be exact.

SOL General 10-03-2007 11:32 AM

Ben you have a PM....

Splitime 10-03-2007 12:13 PM

If Loki is getting one of these plates, I'd be happy to check if they fit on the 323 gtx valve cover once its in chi-town.

Now that I have garage space, I don't mind taking stuff apart and confirming things.

Loki047 10-03-2007 12:27 PM

PM me your address/phone # and I can drop it off when I get it.

Ben 10-03-2007 07:00 PM

thanks for the heads up Matt. nice illustration. i plan to add some silicone or glue to keep them in place too.

the clips will hold them fine. there's a lockdown plate that prevents the tangs from lifting up. You can seal it with silly cone though.

shit. i better get on this.

actually the cover will be in Bruce's hands Sunday.

Ben 10-03-2007 09:30 PM

m@ I'm sure the lock tab will hold the pins in fine. But since I'm making stuff to send out, I want it to be bulletproof. I was planning on wrapping some electrical tape around the wiring at the connector and filling with epoxy. that would not only bond everything in place, but would also create a weather seal. and also if one wire got pulled, it would spread the load across all 4. kind of a ghetto strain relief.

paul, no rush dude. I have several 1.6 harness to make. thanks though.

Flippy02 10-03-2007 11:35 PM

i'd be in for a 1.8 hold down bracket, but my mounting tabs are a little different then the one you have, mine are straight up from the connector, braineak, has a picture of it in his how2

elesjuan 10-04-2007 12:26 PM

I'd be interested in a mounting plate for the 1.8 COPs.. once I can get a set of coils scrounged up. Still working on that one.

Uhm, I might add that I'm not running a Miata cam cover, but it should fit all the same between miata and 323/Protoge/Escort covers I would think.

i wouldn't guarantee that. my miata's valve cover is nowhere near close to an early 1.8 and the COPs dont fit in my holes.

Hmm.. so maybe I should fight one battle at a time and get the coils rounded up and installed before I worry about a mounting solution.. Gotta do something cause right now my factory coil packs are just laying ontop of my intake manifold / injector cluster ****. I was more thinking the same along the lines of room for the mounting plate to go. I actually own all of those covers, the escort, 323/protoge, and more than one 1.8/1.6 miata covers.. If anyone wants some photos or measurements.
