Default NoVA/DC/MD Mazdaspeed Miata MSM shortblock 30K

I'm selling a 2004 Mazdaspeed miata shortblock that was removed from a car with 30K miles on it following a detonation event while running a Hydra (in the hands of the first/previous owner). I do not know what damage was caused to the motor, but the pistons appear OK. I cannot speak to the crank or rods without a disassembly.

This motor came with a Mazdaspeed I purchased that had already had it replaced because of the detonation event, so I never heard the car run with this motor in it

The head and accessories were already removed and will not be included. You will get the oil pan, oil pickup and windage tray (never removed or inspected).

$300 OBO. Honestly don't know if this if fair/hi/low so I will take offers seriously.

Pick up/delivery within reasonable distance from Washington DC beltway. I'm in Easton, MD on the Eastern shore, but am in Alexandria and Baltimore regularly, so something can get worked out. No shipping, not worth the PITA.

Forum member kaisersoze can provide references (he is the friend I bought/picked up the MSM for).

For fastest response email me at wadejg remove this part for spambots at gmail dot com

Regards,
Justin Wade

If it's available, I'll buy the transmission.

Sorry, all I've got is the shortblock, intake manifold, exhaust manifold, and turbo. I think Kaisersoze would be pretty ticked off if I sold his transmission, since he is currently using it in the car

Justin

Can you better explain this "detonation event"?

Most cars on the road have detonated or pinged in their lifetime and are still driving.

check the picks. Piston two and 3 are not at the same height like they should be. I'de say rod #2 is fucked.

I can't since I didn't hear the motor running. As I understand it, it knocked loudly, but no big "kaboom" at the outset. I would guess a rod broke as suggested above, but I don't know for sure.

Justin

Bump for hard to find oil pan with a bunch of extras for your turbo swap.

Would it make this more desirable if I disassembled the motor to show the likely broken rod and condition of the cylinder bores?

Thanks,
Justin

If you can show that the block is not 10 kinds of fucked it might help your cause. A sound block with a crank that is not hosed is worth something. A block that has been vented by a whipping rod is worth nothing.

I can tell you there are no apparent "speed holes" in the block. Speed holes cost extra, everybody knows that.

I'm not looking to hose anybody and since I'm selling locally, if the crank is F'd or the block hosed (beyond expected bore/liner issues from a broken rod) I'll be happy to give a refund.

Any way to show the block condition besides separating the block? I assume what people would want are the oil pan, reinforced post 2000 windage tray, crank, and slightly lower compression pistons. The block has some value if it isn't hosed, which I will provide a reasonable guarantee it won't be. The stock connecting rods are a dime a dozen from lots of different sources.

I'm on 10 different car forums (I own an e46 m3, forester xt-sti'd, FD rx7, spec miata, NC awaiting ls1 transplant, and until last week a 240 volvo with an ls1 motor) and have a good reputation on all of them, just google wadejg - also my ebay user ID.

Regards,
Justin

You are not too far off from having the pistons/rods out. All of the bolts on the oil pan are 10mm. The oil pick up tube is two 10mm bolts in the oil pump and one 10mm nut to the crank girdle. Shouldnt take you much more then 30 minutes to pop it all apart.
