Yeah, I know he's not making a profit, like I said I'm not being a dick, I was just really hoping it would be cheaper. It is a fantastic design though. Maybe if you guys can get a good little group buy going we could eventually get a small production run going and kick Begi's butt, MiataTurbo style ;)

TheScaryOne 07-05-2014 12:50 PM

Yea, but he's also making 5. If he was making 500, the cost would be much lower than $90.

I priced building Begi's spacer at my local CNC shop. It was $120, after programming and process planning. If I could have made twenty, it would have went down to $60 or less.

I'm pretty excited for this.

Im sad that I couldn't join on the fun :(

I'm sorry to be sort of out of the topic. But I was thinking of using the kia thermostat housing someone mentioned before and taping it to install the heater outlet and the stock coolant sensor. And installing the thermostat in the actual house using "Meziere Inline Thermostat Housings". Is that possible? I know it is very thigh back there and I don't want to remove the engine or the engine head.

The Kia housing doesn't have enough wall thickness to tap it for the heater and sensor ports. You want something like this:

Mazda Miata Coolant Reroute Housing

There's probably 6 years worth of discussion on the topic of doing coolant reroutes on a Miata. Stop being lazy, search and go read it.

Thanks!

By the way. I've been reading. But it's imposible to read (as you said)

While having a life and working in a Doctorate Degree if I plan on doing this before I get bored of the car and sell it.

This was my first post thanks for being this "Nice".

skou 07-10-2014 02:35 AM

Pricing for the Thermostat Cover came in at $98 each. So, for a complete kit the total with shipping and PayPal fees is $391. The partial kit for bcrx7 is $239.

I have a meeting with the machinist tomorrow to go over the designs and make sure there are no concerns from his end.

bcrx7 07-10-2014 03:31 PM

Excellent!

hmongmiatanb 07-15-2014 03:52 PM

Would then spacer clear the egr line? I know you can bend the pipe but if it clears it would be nice not to temper the emissions hardline.

This design will not clear the EGR pipe.

hmongmiatanb 07-15-2014 09:07 PM

Roger. I have a cnc machinist at my disposal. Gonna attempt one that clears the egr line.

One of the guys backed out of buying a complete kit, so there's one available if anyone is interested.

Deacon 07-24-2014 10:45 PM

Pm sent.

Sorry, I already committed to final quantities with the machine shop and I am not going to part out the final set.

silvermazda 07-26-2014 12:47 AM

Totally understand. This message was more oriented toward those who want to start a mini group buy.

TheScaryOne 07-26-2014 12:52 AM

I think you misunderstand me, silvermazda. I am not looking to do a group buy, just pointing out that BEGI is hosing everyone on that part by pricing it just below the cost to build a single unit for yourself.

Skou, if silvermazda is interested in buying your thermo housing and spacer, I'll take the water pump inlet from the last kit, so you could have it fully sold.

iantboyd 08-01-2014 04:48 PM

Bump for updates....if any lol. Im pretty excited for machined parts pictures.

bcrx7 08-01-2014 06:30 PM

I think he said 6 weeks, so we have a couple of more weeks to go! Looking forward to it! I can get rid of my leaky stainless to aluminum flange!

My bad.

skou 08-09-2014 03:39 PM

Sorry for the lack of feedback. I've been out of the country for the last couple of weeks. I'll call the machine shop this week and find out where they are at.

One set is still available by the way....

TheScaryOne 08-09-2014 03:58 PM

I'll trade you a square top straight across for the last set.

Edit: Square top is not available.

Sorry, already have one and don't need another.

brainzata 08-12-2014 09:49 AM

I would be interested in the water pump inlet housing if not to late.

bcrx7 08-16-2014 11:52 AM

Ok we are coming up on 6 weeks here. Have you had a chance to talk to the machine shop on their progress?

skou 08-17-2014 11:30 AM

Will start cutting metal this week.

xj220sc 08-18-2014 01:10 AM

Looks good! One day I'll need one of those when I give up on my bleeder screw.

bcrx7 08-18-2014 01:12 PM

Awesome!

skou 08-21-2014 04:01 PM

Last set sold to DazedandConfused.

TheScaryOne 08-21-2014 10:08 PM

I am dissapoint. Get mah big vacation check tomorrow. :(

Time for sexy machined parts pictures!

I talked to the guy on Monday. He told me they had a big deadline for a commercial customer which pushed our stuff out a bit, but that he would start our parts today. I'll call him again in the morning or go by his shop during lunch to confirm. I guess $2000 worth of parts doesn't get you very far....

skou 08-28-2014 08:56 PM

The shop told me today that they still haven't started! I'm more than a little annoyed, but not much I can do since they already have 50% payment. I'll keep pushing....

hmongmiatanb 08-28-2014 09:18 PM

Machine shops will always push out the mass before the little guys. If I were you I would find someone else. I personally have a cnc buddy and he has access to all sort of machinery. I have the solid works program at home... Any competent cnc machinist can setup the cnc and run these through in a day.

1 thing is I learned that shops will bid on jobs and small jobs don't really interest many.

Ds1 08-29-2014 09:49 AM

I'm also happy to help, I have some friends in this area. Thats how production rolls though... never on time! :)

stefanst 08-29-2014 06:13 PM

I can still offer my buddy's help in NJ. He would have them done in less than 10 days.
Send me the drawings and the price and he'll tell you tomorrow, if he can match it (or improve on it).

brainzata 08-30-2014 03:04 PM

Cool, can you add a water pump inlet piece to the list? lol

skou 09-02-2014 08:59 PM

Seriously why don't you buy a laser printer, make a casting of these parts in plastic, contact a chinese supplier and reproduce them in large quantities. Seriously I just gave you an insight as to how is done and you can make great profit on these beautiful pieces.

You have great product in your hands.

iantboyd 09-03-2014 12:05 PM

Thats what I've been saying! I already have a couple factories I've been looking at for some of my company's parts that would fit perfect.

What is the width and depth of the groove machined into the spacer for the thermostat?

EDIT: Nevermind, didn't search hard enough

bcrx7 09-11-2014 08:14 PM

I check this section hourly for more CNC p0rn...

skou 09-11-2014 09:07 PM

Spacers...done!

Don't worry about the AN6 ORB fitting in the M12x1.5 sensor port. I have been assured they didn't try to thread it in.

I was just thinking about this. Thanks for the update. I love this stuff.

StealthNB 09-20-2014 11:37 PM

Great Work man,. You have to groove the spacer in order for the T-stat to sit as flat as possible. For reference look at the rear of any miata cylinder head.

skou 09-20-2014 11:55 PM

I missed that they hadn't machined the grooves yet. Ah well, not as done as I thought.

bcrx7 09-21-2014 08:33 PM

Looking good! I am not using a T-Stat, so they can leave the groove out if possible!

skou 09-24-2014 10:50 PM

Parts are done! Picking them up in the morning. Hope to have everything sorted, packed and in the mail tomorrow.

So, I pick up the parts and when I go to test fit everything, I find this...

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...1&d=1411676082

They forgot to tap the AN16 ORB port on the water pump inlets! It'll now take another day for them to finish.

Anyhow, the rest of the parts look great and fit perfectly.
