Hardtops are the best. Now that winter is here every NA I see has one. In the summer I never see NA's, now they are everywhere with hardtops.

UrbanSoot 01-31-2008 08:10 PM

thats why i just got one :)
my soft top is too cold to drive with in the morning and at night. hopefully hardtop will be better :)

:gay: It was -12 degrees this morning and I saw an NA with soft top parked on the street.

UrbanSoot 01-31-2008 08:53 PM

hehe... if i drive miata - i drive top down no matter how cold it is. with hard top i will break that habit

kenzo42 01-31-2008 09:32 PM

urgaynknowit 01-31-2008 10:15 PM

posidon42 02-01-2008 01:51 PM

there is some guy who wants to start producing cf tops here

posidon42 02-04-2008 10:25 PM

That would be awesome. I am going to start working on some fiberglass work this summer with the hopes of eventually making some of my own body panels. Should be an adventure. It will take a while before I will get into cf though. I still can't figure out how they get the seamless transitions in cf while making it look like it is all one piece.

they lay it up just like fiber glass, but then the last sheet or two is laid over as a single large piece so you get a uniform pattern. then you just vacuum bag the shit and smooth out any wrinkles/bubbles.

It's surprisingly easy to work with CF, but thanks to the aircraft industry the price has gone through the fucking roof. It used to only be 2-3X more expensive than fiberglass.

Savington 02-04-2008 10:57 PM

CF is easy to work with. I just helped the CalPoly Formula SAE team finish our 08 tub, which is a dry carbon monocoque with a nomex core.

Too bad you are almost 8 hours away from me. I could use some expertise. I think I am just going to try out some shapes on the car with some and see how it turns out. I am really interested in making a fastback hardtop. Not sure which car I want to model it after though.
