FS: 2001 Torsen Swap

FS is my 1.8l 2001 Torsen swap. Bought from a salvage yard who listed it as having 18,000 miles on it. Since it was in my car, it had about another 4,000 on it. Changed overly regularly with Mobil1. It was tracked and autoxed on. Was changed after every 2 days of track use. Thats how Overly it was changed.

Included with sale:
2001 Torsen/carrier/pumpkin
One piece axles
1.8l Driveshaft
bolts/nuts for 1.8l driveshaft/diff (these are different from 1.6l)

I had 0 clunks/whirs/buzzes/booms with this. I'm only removing it because I have to fabricate a front mount for the diff for my latest project, so I'm using a cheap rx7 diff instead.

$700 + shipping/packing costs (my local shipping store is really reasonable for packing/boxes)

And pardon the what looks like oil or whatnot on the housing. I gave it a quick spray with wd40 to wipe it down. The diff housing is NOT leaking at all.

if the car it came out of was a 6-speed! that would mean its a 3.9 right?

Splitime 10-04-2010 08:55 PM

Honestly, I never asked what it came off of when I bought it. Beyond year and mileage.
Am I remembering right that there was 5spd/6spd/auto that year?

I ran it with 5spd and 6spd and both were fun... but I never documented any rpm/speeds. I'm in the school of... if it works... rock it :)

WonTon 10-04-2010 09:20 PM

lol, didnt know if you knew or not so i thought i would point it out incase sombody wanted to know the gear ratio on it!

good deal BTW people!

It's halloween, so I'm just pumpkin shopping. It sure is a pretty package deal though :) .

Splitime 10-05-2010 11:10 AM

It would cost a bit more than your typical grocery store pumpkin... but it'll outlast the season many times!

Do you have any idea how much everything weighs? I am interested but I would need to ship it to St Albert, Alberta, Canada.

And get it through customs... I can get a weight on it... it'll be 3 boxes though, maybe 2 if axles can get into driveshaft box.

I won't send it UPS/Fedex though unless you really want to pay for the duty tax CRAP on your end.

16west 10-05-2010 01:07 PM

I am in no hurry to get it as the season is just about over up here. I never have anything shipped by UPS as it costs more for customs than the items are worth. I just picked up The 1991 and will be working over the winter to get it ready for next spring.

Thanks,

Bob

So basically we need to figure out if it'll be underweight for USPS to avoid tax crap. Got you.

I'll check on weight tonight.

16west 10-05-2010 01:30 PM

I think the limit for postal shipments is around 70 pounds.

Another option would be Greyhound Bus

Hurm, US Greyhound site seems to not do border crossing shipments?

16west 10-05-2010 08:02 PM

I did some phoning around. I can not seem to get through to the USPS from up here. I did talk to FedX. I had a aproximate cost of 75.00 US for a package 48/18/18 in with a weight of 75 Lb shipped by ground. The shipping cost has to be paid by the shipper and the customs charges etc are billed to me.

usps turns into canada post in canada.

you receive your stuff at the local post office.

16west 10-05-2010 08:36 PM

The problem is in trying to find out what the USPS would charge from their end to actually ship the item into Canada. Their web site does not allow anyone to check prices from the USA to Canada for parcels. I could not even get a live person at USPS to talk to.

UPS and Fed X allow you to estimate charges from the US zip code.

I have had cases in the past where it cost more to ship something than the original cost of the item. Miata parts are also made in Japan so Canadian custom duties of around 6% are charged over and above all of the other taxes and fees.

I do not want to put someone to a lot of trouble checking out costs for me and then have me decide not to purchase because the price has gone above what it would cost for me to purchase locally.

http://ircalc.usps.gov/

you literally havent looked.

I bought from Splitime in the past, and the transaction was smooth.
Shipping to canada does suck generally... i bought my diff and had it shipped to the norhtern states for cheap and then i drove down to get it one afternoon.

16west 10-05-2010 09:27 PM

I was on the same site as your link. I missed the link on that site for the charges. You are right . The only problem with USPS is a max weight of 65 lb and a smaller package size than Fed X. I would like to be able to drive down to the US and pick up items but it is a 600 KM drive one way to the nearest large center in Montana.

65lbs for the diff. 30x18x12 should be oversized enough to provide packing material buffer.

A second box would have to be rigged up to do the driveshaft and axles. Would be less for that box (so i assume).

I can't seem to get a good estimate either. The random ones it shows me... can't be right...
