High Performance Automatic Transmission
 

I have an automatic transmission removed from a 2005 mazda miata for sale. This transmission will fit a 99-2005 miata. It has 55k miles on it and is in great condition, clean and dry, no leaks, no problems. The transmission has a custom shift kit I designed, built, and installed in the valve body. This transmission will hold 300whp with ease. I ran it up to 350whp and it held, but that was the limit of what it could hold. At 300whp the shifts are INSTANT and firm. At low RPM driving it shifts a bit firmer than stock. The higher you rev the engine, the harder it shifts. Shifting at 2K it's similar to stock but a bit firmer. Shifting at 3K it's noticeably firmer. It's very driveable for every day use. With 300whp and street tires, at full throttle this transmission would bark the tires grabbing 2nd gear, and grabbing 3rd!

The shift kit results in all gear changes happening a lot faster and firmer than stock. The line pressure has also been raised to further assist shift speed and holding power.

If you are looking to run a supercharger or turbo with your automatic miata, this would be a great transmission for your build. I would highly recommend adding an external transmission cooler to help keep it cool, I did this on my setup and it really helps keep the transmission cool.

There is one small part that is different between the 99-00 and the 01-05 transmissions, it's the trigger wheel for the vehicle speed sensor. I will include both so this will work with either year range, and I will even swap in the correct one for your year model, it currently has the 99-00 wheel installed.

What would it take to make this work in an older car? I'm trying to push a couple people into buying it.

Depends how old the miata is.

99-05 this bolts right in and works.

A 94-97 bolts right in, and had computer controlled transmissions already (They had Jatco trans, not a Aisin Warner). So making it shift would just be connecting the shift solenoid wires to the new trans as the car already has a computer for the trans and they work the same way (shift solenoid A, shift solenoid B, Torque converter clutch solenoid, only 1 wire each to connect)

If it's a 90-93 miata bolts right in, but will need a 1.8 auto driveshaft, and those were hydraulically shifted and did not have a computer, so you would need a standalone controller to run the transmission. These are available for around 500 bucks online from a quick search. Microsquirt makes one, as do other companies.

94-97 would be considerably easier/cheaper to swap it into vs the older miata, but it could be done.

I'm a bit surprised it hasn't sold, I've had a few PM's on m.net and 2 folks I thought were gonna buy it. But then nothing.

If you're local, I'll throw in 2.5 GALLONS of new transmission fluid with it, all sealed new bottles of course.

Since the last person that I thought was gonna buy it asked many questions, let me cover his main concern. This transmission is very driveable for everyday use. It does not slam you back on gear changes when you're trying to just ease around, it drives very close to stock below 2K, and not bad below 3K. I find that I usually shifted around 2500 with normal driving so it was great. This is not a ghetto modded transmission that shifts hard in daily use, and isn't any stronger under high load. AKA not a chevy truck with a shift kit.

This transmission has two separate valves that work together to regulate the line pressure. One is controlled by a throttle cable that connects to the throttle body, the other is spring loaded hydraulic valve. Thus as RPM rises, line pressure rises, and as throttle is increased, line pressure rises. So at high RPM, high throttle, you have the highest line pressure possible. The shift kit does raise max line pressures, but does not change the factory behavior so it still works as designed, just at higher limits when at high RPM/ high throttle for higher torque capacity. Thus it can hold significantly more torque under high load, without sacrificing driveability.

I also have an automatic PPF available if you need it.

I will also add, before building this, I contacted all the big names in import transmission building. The one that agreed to build it could not guarantee it would hold 350whp, and he wanted 3,600 parts/labor + shipping both ways to "build" it. I could not justify that cost with no guarantee of holding power, thus why I designed and built my own. You're not going to find another built auto like this one, and especially not at this price!

100 bucks picked up. Scrapping this soon if it doesn't find a new home.

Does it come with a flexplate and the convertor?

no, I threw those out a while back.
