Koni Yellows/Race, fresh rebuilt

I have a set of Koni shocks, yellow bodies with Race valving in them. They are currently at Koni's warehouse, after being inspected, dynoed, and the weak ones rebuilt.

These are awesome shocks, if you're riding around on stock suspension or AGX's or similar, you will be amazed at the control they will provide. Compared to my old AGX set up, with 375/250 springs, the Koni race with 550/375 springs were WAY way softer ride. Gone was all my jarring bumps and having to convince women to go in my car. And the control over rough roads, bumps in sweepers, and all around handling is incredible.

Be prepared to run a lot more spring than you think you need, and the car will treat you right, I definitely picked up 10 mph in the slow stuff, 25 in the fast over the AGX, and my CD player stopped skipping over bumps.

Koni Yellows go for $600, revalving is over $650, bringing the cost of this set up comparable to a new set of races. As they have brand new valving, they should be good for plenty of use. As I had picked up other shocks while waiting for Koni's 8 week backlog to roll around, these are now for sale.

I'm hoping to get $750 for these, as this will only barely cover the price of the revalve, and I'll eat the cost of the shocks. You'll be getting some poorly painted but mechanically perfect Race spec shocks, which will handle even Spec Miata spring rates on an adjustable shock which would sell for $1200 new. I'm open to offers, but I'm in no rush to sell.

These are for an NB correct?

AbeFM 10-07-2008 09:50 PM

They are NA shocks. I ran them on my NB for years - using Fat Cat Motorsports mounts - this gives you a bit more travel, so you only see the bump stops when actually jumping. Don't ask how I know. :-) But combined with the FCM linear bump stops, it's really quite a ride, though even with stockers I'm sure it would work well.

Abe, are these Koni Sports with race valving? Or are they the shorter bodied Koni Race's.

If anyone wants to buy my brand new never installed Koni Sports, that I just paid $500 plus S&H for $450. I would be happy to take these off your hands.

yeah - that's the same problem I was having - Konis like to have a LOT of spring - it's a nice set up, but that's what they like. I should probably hang on to them a bit longer till I actually drive on my other shocks to see if I even WANT to dump them.

You know, I utterly forgot about that. I think I'm going to hang on to them for a bit! :-)

WTF just happened? Did I talk you out of selling them? Shit!

Keep us informed, if you change your mind.

So Abe, if you'll permit me to crap in your not-for-sale thread, does this mean you went for the FCM Bilsteins, or did something else catch your eye?

AbeFM 10-10-2008 03:56 PM

yeah - I hate to say it... I was planning on switching to bilstiens, to trade a harsh ride and probably worse handling for crisper turn in. The konis are soft, they stick like I can't describe, but I thought I would try it both ways, sell whichever one I don't like

Only then my motor died, so I never got around to trying anything. Then I thought hell I might as well sell them.

But the realization just struck that it would cost me $1200+ to replace them, so I should hang onto them in case I want to go back!

Joe: Well, FCM wanted an aweful lot of money for it. That's really all there is to it. I got them revalved directly at Bilstien for.. ~250 out the door. I just can't justify spending more than twice that. I'd have liked to, I like Shaike and value his opinion, but it's a few hundred dollars I can use to buy me a set of pistons.

Anyone got a set of aftermarket pistons?
