Looking to buy 3.6 speed sensor
I currently installing 3.6 ring and pinion into my 2000 miata. I still need a 3.6 speed sensor.
ebay has them
I did attempt ebay. Didn't find any 3.6 speedo gears
This is the one i bought for my 3.6 swap.
I received it, but have not swapped diffs yet... https://www.ebay.com/itm/Mazda-Miata...72.m2749.l2649 |
i think you got the only one
oh, the seller cancelled the listing, i saw there was 3 more available, but didn't see he closed the listing.
they are also available here, new MZ-M533-17-400A - Mazda speedometer senders - MiataRoadster - High-performance service...and parts for Mazda Miata Roadsters |
I saw that miataroadster has them, just trying to avoid $125 if possible.
Is yours an electronic speedo? Because when I got my 3.63 it came with a fully intact speedo for the trans, but because mine is cable (95) I couldn't use it. If you are willing to wait a week, I'll send it to you for whatever a small flat rate box costs. (it's at my parents and I won't be there until next weekend). It's better than paying 125$.
Yeah mine is a 2000, so it is electronic. And I can wait a week.
I have one used from a 6 speed gearbox. I kept the 4.1FGR so the 3.6 speed sensor is for sale.Located in Greece, Athens .PM for details if interested.
The person I was gonna buy the sensor kinda dropped off the face of the planet so I'm still looking again
I had trouble finding one as well so I ended up ordering the gear directly from Mazda (I forget the part number but its out there). The shaft on the newer VSS is larger than the NA so I used a lathe to open up the ID of the gear and press fit it onto the shaft. After that it just a matter of getting the gears to mesh correctly (I used a mill to get the correct fit.) It's quite a bit of work but saved me $125
Here's the final product. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...2877712310.jpg |
I have a 3.63 diff and I'm using a 3.9 speed sensor. The speed measures correctly compared to my GPS when using 225/45-15 tires. In case you are running that tire size.
I am running that size, so not a terrible idea. thanks for advice

I have one from my street car before the BMW trans went in. Email me (link is in my signature, click "email us")

For future reference, thanks @chicksdigmiatas
M502-17-441 - gear 1011-17-442A - sleeve 9922-20-214 - Spring Pin 9958-60-8166 - Oil Seal for inside the sleeve. 1011-17-443 - O-Ring for the outside of the sleeve. |
Just for clarity, those part numbers are for a mechanical speed sensor and won't work with the electrical VSS (which I think was introduced on NBs) without modifications.
