Default 1994 Miata - $1200 (Humble)

Craigslist, no affilation. Incredibly sketchy, he bought the car without title and the people who hold the title won't give it to him? If they have the title, why wouldn't they take possession of the car? Stolen? Who knows.

Other than potentially getting involved in an illegal transaction, it's a good deal for a parts car...$1200 for hardtop, roll bar, and 1994 bits.

I am selling my 1994 Miata... I am selling it as parts only because I can not get the title... It runs great and has alot of extras that make it worth the money... 16" custom rims, 4 point roll bar, a hardtop, nice stereo system... just the extra's are worth what I am asking... I have tried to get the title, but the person that I bought the car from passed away and the people that have the title won't give it to me, because they didn't know that he sold the car to me. It is a long story, but I have been driving the car for 5 years without the title, but still registering in my name... so I have to sell the car as parts only.. NO TITLE... must see the car..

Dodgy!!!

Still, if someone buys this and parts it out...

I mean the hardtop alone must be worth $800+, the wheels/tires $400... there is definitely big $$ to be made if someone wants to take the plunge.

That would end up being like buying a stolen car. Best bet woule be to try to buy the pieces off it and leave him with the car.

I emailed him and live close by. I told him I would gladly take the roll bar for $250, AND come over and uninstall it, AND he would still be able to sell it for the same price.

Told me that he wants to keep it looking the same because it adds to the value. Well dude... you can sell it for the SAME PRICE!

I wish I had it.

In Texas we have this awesome thing called a "bonded title" where you pay 10% down of the car's value and your protected should the previous holder of the title just happen to notice that you were issued a title and contest it.

Hell, that's basically a free car.

You don't have to title track cars, right? As long as you aren't driving them on public roads?

This thing is begging to be made into a track bitch.

the guy is a frickin moron who either stole the car or nvr closed the deal, ergo he deserves to hold onto it forever until he will part it out the right way. hell gospeed why not pick it up then it is in texas.

OK guys, here's the thing:

This can be re-titled. I have been through this process but it takes 6+ months and is painful and VERY expensive (not worth it for a car like this). Re-titling companies like Mainely Titles (who I used) do a good job. They require a Bill of Sale, an inspection report from the local police to confirm the VIN and that the car isn't stolen, and photos of the VIN plate, etc, together with an affidavit from you (the buyer of the untitled vehicle) saying basically that you didn't steal it, and a Power of Attorney giving them power to act in your stead in Arizona. They then take advantage of the somewhat liberal title laws in Arizona to re-title the car in that state and get you a clear AZ title in your name to transfer to the state of your choice.

That said, if you are going to track it or turn it into a dedicated auto-X car, just have a VIN check done (on CarFax and at the local cop shop), and then buy with a good conscience. GET THE VIN CHECK FROM THE POLICE IN WRITING!!! And DO NOT drive it on a public road! EVER!!

This does not constitute legal advice, follow at your own risk, you could go to jail, do your own freakin research first, no liability on my head, etc etc.

Headache of retitling, or headache of parting it out?
