You got an email back. Been super busy running around trying to deliver setups and getting time back that I lost due to the hurricane.

I have been doing lots of batches of products. Currently have about 15 finished manifolds ready to go, had up to 8 NA exhausts finished on my garage floor late last week. Working on finishing several batches of IC pipes for various years.

Well, I'm getting some nappy scraping sounds above about 2200 RPM, and it smells almost like burnt rubber after a WOT pull. I'm pretty sure this little turbo is toast. Does anyone have a link to either a turbo or CHRA that's currently available as a direct replacement? I'd rather just swap out the dead one to rebuild later and have a backup at this point, since I'm kind in the middle of getting tuned.

You can get a replacement turbo probably cheaper than a chra. Also these turbos are rebuildable but for how much effort and the cost of a kit, you are better off just buying another turbo. Also breaking up bad and rubber smell doesn't sound like a bad turbo to me. That sounds like something else .

This is the one Lars sent me a while back: https://www.ebay.com/itm/For-Turbo-C...MAAMXQWlFRpoqt

It's currently unavailable for some reason. I looked for an alternative one the other day and couldn't find one.

It's not breaking up at all. It's making a scraping noise. Like one of the wheels is contacting the housing.

Lots of links to dead sales. On the hunt for a current good supply.

This is the one I installed when the original turbo started spitting oil out the tailpipe:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/T3-T4-T3T4-...53.m1438.l2649

I used my original ported turbine housing with everything else from the new turbo linked above. It didn't seem to change my spool, but map needed slightly leaner on the top end. Note that the inlet for the air cleaner is larger, so a new air cleaner/elbow will be required.

Default Wg flapper not seating properly?

I decided to port my wastgate today but I'm having trouble getting the flapper to lay flat on the compressor housing. I've repeated the steps of painting it and
putting it together over and over and get the same result every time. Am I complete a mongoloid or is something amiss?

Edit: I made a circle out of paper that was the same circumference as the wastegate and lined it up with where I knew it touched and traced that. I should have the approximate location based on that I suppose. Question still stands on whether it will be an issue though. Thanks

When it’s laying flat on the table, can you mark it by flapping it on a piece of paper?

What worked for me was using chapstick to leave an oily circle. I’ll try to add a picture later, I’m away from my computer right now.

That is what I ended up doing thank you. My main concern now is that the flapper doesn't sit flush against the hole so it leaves a bit of a gap. I don't know if that's normal and if it will seal when it's actually seeing boost or not.

If you open the hole in a circular shape too large the flapper edge will hang up on the hole when it closes. This won't remedy itself and it will require a new exhaust housing.

Are you speaking on the face-to-face fitment of the flapper and turbine housing (pic below)?

The mount point of the flapper to the arm should have enough tolerance in it to seat flat against the face of the turbine housing- does it not?

No it does not. Thanks for the picture I felt like my description wasn't making it clear. When it sits flat it pushes the two housings(?) apart. I didn't measure how far yet but probably a millimeter or two. I figured I might be able to machine that amount off the flapper to have it sit flat?

I wouldn't machine anything off the flapper disk given the heat/abuse. I'd investigate the joint at the connection between the disk and the arm. Maybe there's some casting/machining issues causing interference?

Nothing stuck out to me yesterday but it's definitely worth checking when I get home later today. Thank you.
