Sad day... selling my 99 FMII kit in SoCal

The Miata is causing too many arguments with the spouse and I am putting the car back to stock. I installed the FMII last October and put around 4000 miles on the car with it since then. I ride the bus most days to work hence the low mileage. The only problems I had were cosmetic (hence the ceramic coating) and some issues with FM's wastegate actuator. I helped FM evaluate several versions of the actuator until we settled on the one that is pictured below. This actuator is now what they include in all of their turbo kits.

This is a complete FMII kit (Hydra and wiring for 99-00, Garrett 2560R, manifold, injectors, intercooler, etc) with the following upgrades:

- ceramic coated manifold and downpipe
- exhaust manifold ported by BEGi
- BEGi upgraded studs in exhaust manifold and downpipe for 10mm bolts
- wastegate ported by BEGi - solved my overboost issues
- flat decked exhaust manifold and outlet casting

I never took it to the dyno so I don't have any charts to present. This will come with EVERYTHING you need to install the kit, except the oil drain fitting. Mine is JB welded into the oil pan and that is going to be difficult to remove. You will get the drill bit, you just need to buy a new fitting.

Album of manifold and downpipe polishing and machining. I almost didn't want to put these back in the car :D

This kit new with all the upgrades (minus the BEGi machining) is $5450. Yours for $4500. Shipping is available but will be at buyers expense. Potential buyers are more than welcome to come to test drive the parts while it is still in the car. I don't plan to pull it until I have a buyer. Thanks for looking.

Tell your wife to stop being such a bitch.

posidon42 08-03-2008 06:33 PM

Yeah, tried that. Didn't work out too well :) Seriously though, it just isn't worth all the hassle. We are trying to buy a house in the next 6 months or so and I just keep bleeding money on upgrades for a car I hardly drive.

Fireindc 08-03-2008 06:56 PM

Haha, yeah dude i was just kidding.

Looks like a good kit for a good price. Good luck with sale.

OR... you can stop spending money on a car you hardly drive and enjoy it as is. Then maybe you wont get pussy whipped.

try putting something heat-shieldy over the turbo and tell her it's back to stock ;)

Just wondered why you did all the machining. Did you have a leak?
How much boost are you running?

posidon42 08-07-2008 12:15 AM

I was having problems with overboosting and BEGi offered to enlarge the wastegate for free. At the same time, I received the exhaust manifold and downpipe from FM after upgrading to the ceramic coated bits. I was unhappy with the slag and overall roughness of the casting on the forums, and BEGi offered to fix that for me as well. So I sent in all three pieces and they ported the manifold, downpipe, flattened the mating surfaces (on their own by the way) and enlarged the manifold and turbo mounting bits to accept 10mm bolts. They even added the hardware and those antislip nuts enlarged for the new bolts. I just paid for shipping both ways. Very worth my money in my opinion. :)

I was running up to 12psi but it is set down to about 10 now. After I got the new wastegate actuator from FM I detuned everything a bit while I was making the adjustments for the new part. I just never got around to turning it back up. Work has been a real pain recently and I don't have any time to mess with the car.

Good value there!:)

Cant say I have seen an overboost problem at 12psi. I did find better spool from the actuator change.

Your castings certainly look better than my stock FM2 and it sounds like the overboost is not a problem now.

Maybe if you Autocrossed or tracked the car, it would help her see the value;)

I used to autocross the car when I lived in Ohio. No boost though.
