TW/FT: SD Bilstein suspension

This setup is very stiff. Not suitable for daily commutes at all. This is the ONLY reason I want to go for a different, softer setup.
  • Stewart Development revalved Bilsteins
  • 550 front springs
  • 400 rear springs
  • Allstar adjustable perches
  • Fat Cat bump stops all around
  • ISC top hats all around

Setup has around 2,500 miles on it. Really would rather trade for a softer setup instead of selling but if I'd have to put a price tag - $1,100 + shipping would do.

would you consider a trade for barely used megan EZ streets? less than 500 miles on them.

KasbeKZ 11-11-2012 10:46 PM

have yellow konis, fm springs and fcm bumps i would trade. don't want the top-hats though. how much would i need to put on top? my setup was around $850-900 new. probably well less than 10k on it.

I've paid right around $1,400 for this setup so I guess around $500 is reasonable without top hats. What generation FM springs?

Sorry, not particularly interested in Megan.

i believe the springs are 2nd gen.

$500 on top is a bit much for me

Have you owned different suspension prior? I had the same spring rates and it was quite comfy. Comfy enough that I moved up to a stiffer spring rate, 672/448. Are they shortened? Bilsteins IIRC originally have 4" or so of stroke in the rear, maybe it is hitting the bumpstops too often? I almost want to get your opinion of ride comfort in my car.

This is by far not the first suspension I have owned. I'm almost 100% certain that it is the valving that is making the setup stiff. Don't get me wrong - car handles like it is on rails and I'd like to think that I am decent enough driver to know when I'm riding on bump stops.

Here are PDF's of the shock dyno.

I have KYB AGX 2 with first gen FM springs and FCM adjustable perches. If interested how much would I need on top?

These look to have just a bit more rebound than my SD Billies by about 50# at 2 inch second on the fronts.

And what is your take on them?

Awesome track set up, I have 2 sets on 2 different cars-550#F/350#R. Very firm on public roads, good road feel but bumps are pronounced. I'd say that they are overkill and a bit harsh for a purely street driven car. For a street driven car I'd suggest 300#-450# front rates.

I'm going to swap springs to 400/350 and trim rear bump stops slightly tonight or tomorrow. Let's see what happens!
