Vortech SC kit

I know nothing about this. It was on a running car making 9psi at a local car dealer. They wanted the car returned to stock to make it easier for them to sell. It is my understanding that this kit was offered with a reflashed ECU. I have everything needed to install this supercharger. The engine management is up to you. I should be able to get the reflashed MB2 ECU but not 100%. I have everything, even the longer bolts needed to attach the pulley to the from of the damper. This is an oil cooled unit and includes the T fitting and oil lines. Shaft end play is near zero! Very clean and tight unit in great condition. Loking for $1500 shipped.

That's an older V9F charger, and the kit was made by vf engineering. The kit came in two options, a 3" pulley making 6psi, or a 2.6" pulley making 8psi. The 6psi kit used a fmu, and the 8psi kit used a reflashed ecu. Those ecus are no longer offered but someone like corky bell and others can still get get stock ecus flashed.

This would work well for anyone using a mega squirt. I have this same kit if anyone wants more info. These kits never really gained favor with the mx5 community, tho I don't know why. Seems like most people chose the m45 setup from jackson racing.

Here is the stock dyno curves vf said it'd make. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1415904674

The kit didn't have a good way to control timing, so someone with a stand alone can make a lot more bottom end TQ.

Great info! Thanks. Is my price fair?

Greasemonkey2000 11-13-2014 02:15 PM

So what size pulley does this have? I presume the 2.6'' if it was making 9psi. Can you measure the crank overlay, please? What year did it come off of?

PM sent.

Can you still get parts for it somewhere? Any idea how much power the head unit itself is capable of doing?

Holy what?

verch101 11-13-2014 02:30 PM

Not my place to comment on the price.

As far as the max power from the unit, I'll post back up later with what I make. I'm currently on a m45 setup. I just got my kit. The unit will make about 8psi on a Miata, maybe a little more, spun around 50,000 rpm. If the mustang world everyone over spins the vortechs if they have a good intercooler and can dissipate the heat. I plan on running a 150mm pulley, not the 125mm stock, and a 2.6" nose pulley. I would assume the charger tops put around 12psi, but this is spinning it past the recommend speed. The compressor map goes to 60,000

verch101 11-13-2014 02:36 PM

Here's the compressor map.

Here's the rpm calculator. It's the same internal gears as the v2
http://www.vortechsuperchargers.com/page.php?id=33511

Greasemonkey2000 11-13-2014 02:47 PM

From Vortech's calculator:
stock crank 125mm/4.9'' w/ 3''=42,336 RPM @ 7200 RPM

stock crank 125mm/4.9'' w/ 2.6''=48,849 RPM @ 7200 RPM

150mm/5.9'' crank overlay w/ 3''= 50,976 RPM @ 7200 RPM

150mm/5.9'' crank w/ 2.6''=58,818 RPM @ 7200 RPM

verch101 11-13-2014 02:51 PM

Yup that's the same as my math. I think that will put me a little over 12 psi.

If I hit too much psi, or power I'm gonna use a waistgate on the cold side so I build more low end TQ and bleed off pressure only at the top end. The blower should live up at those rpms, but heat will be an issue, as well as fast revving when not in gear.

Amellrotts 11-13-2014 02:55 PM

The pulleys with mine are 5.2/3.0 inches. The guy I got it from said 8-9psi.

concealer404 11-13-2014 03:00 PM

What sort of power are we talking if it's run to the limit?

Greasemonkey2000 11-13-2014 03:02 PM

Which would be 132mm, wait isn't the stock crank pulley 130mm? If so that's probably what it is, a "stock overlay". With the 5.2" and 3"= 44,928 RPMS

verch101 11-13-2014 03:07 PM

To everyone asking max power. Idk never seen someone really push this kit. I'm gonna test it out on mine I'll report back in a couple of months. It's seems like a fun project.

Greasemonkey2000 11-13-2014 05:15 PM

I have been doing some research on this kit and appearently it was only released for the NB and have yet to find anything on fitment for a NA8 but I would THINK that it should since other 1.8 s/c kits are able to be used on NA and NB. Found 4 reviews on m.net, which they were positive for the most part:
VF Engineering

a short thread about it, maybe BlackCheery04 could shed more light on it but hasn't posted since Feb. '14:

Well that's about it for now, hopefully it helps out.
