Hi,

Completely new to egine modifying and car tuning in general but will be buying a 2004 Euohonic 1.8 with a view to turboing it and then turning it into an MEV Exocet mid next year as an out and out track day toy.

Not looking for anything ridiculous horsepower wise initially so looking at replicating the Flying Miata FMII Hydra but using a Megasquirt from Reverent ionstead of FM's ECU

My background is electronics and i plan to put various arduino based "things" in the exocet that would ideally receive data from the cars ECU and then either display or record it.

I read a fair bit about the MS3 Extra in the teaser post on here from earlier in the year but when is it likely this will be available and will it work with a 2004 VVT Motor - I also plan on using EBC.

Does anyone see any major problems with using the GT2560R turbo and deutschworks injectors with Megasquirt.

If the MS3 etra isn't availbale any time soon , what should i go for instead?

Also whilst it will be a track car it would be good if it was capable of being road legal in the uk. I have read discussiions on various forums about replacement ECU's not meeting emissions tests due to lacking full OBD-II support - Is this a US thing or would this also affect me getting a UK MOT? (I know the Exo would be exempt for 3 years anyway but just trying to factor in what happens if i want to sell it in a few years)

98% of all users don't need anything more than the Basic MS3, unless you have something specific in mind of course.

I would assume that the OBD-II is checked for error codes during the MOT as well. Here it's from 2001 onwards.

There might be a difference in how harsh of a penalty it would be to use a box responding "No Problems" in EU compared to the US.

Having an ECU plugging in to a unmodified harness makes it much easier to stick the stock ECU in there for the MOT.
But building back and forth for each inspection is just normal to me, meaning engine, ECU, cage, seats, harness, ...

An Exocet under SVA is something completely different though.

Thanks for the quick replies, I have had a look at the comparison between the different ecu's and have a couple of questions about some of the hardware.

a.) there is mention of GPS suport on the enhanced MS3 - can you advise what would be supported and available to the user?
b.) onboard barometric sensor - is there a big benefit in having a barometric sensor and if so can an external one be fitted?
c.) digital wideband input - i assume this can be achieved with the wideband module as an updgrade?
d.) neutral, brake and clutch inputs - i assume i can use one of the spare analog inputs to achieve these? Are there any obvious analog inputs i will need that don't have a dedicated input?

Reverent i will pm you re a price for the ms3 basic and can wideband module.

a) The Enhanced MS3 will support any GPS that has a serial port and can output data in the NMEA format. 10Hz GPS are tested and supported.
b) Not much reason for people living in the UK, which is mostly flat, save for Scotland.
c) Correct. The same module can also add OBD-II output as extra.
d) You can, but since these are 12V high inputs and the analog inputs are 0-5V, you'll need to use a voltage divider by using 2 resistors for each of these inputs.
