Default IQ3 dash or AIM MXL or dash 2 ?!?

I'm on the fence here.

I was to get an IQ3 but seems like I quite didn't understand well. I would like to log (on IQ3) everything from my MS3 basic and thought I could do that via CANbus but I can't.

I do use those :

Oil pressure = EXT_MAP Input
Oil Temp = SPARE_ADC input
Water pressure = EGO2 input

And from what I saw, read and studied, I would need to buy 2 pressure sensors at 250$ each and 1 oil pressure sensors at 169$ + serial to V-Net for MS2-3 at 375$ and maybe a USM module at 200$.. ouchhy

On the other hand I saw AIM MXL with 8 anolog inputs... don't know everything on it yet but I think I'll look some more and other options like Dash2. (awesome website for info! http://www.race-technology.com/wiki/...dware/DASH2PRO)

Would like the Racepak from 949 but all those do cost a fortune to get rid of gauges... still on the fence.

EDIT ; duhh forgot the fuel sensor....

To log data you will need the more expensive IQ3 logger dash. Not just the IQ3 dash. The logger communicated to your MS using the vnet (racepak's version of CAN bus) and this adapter. The link bellows lists the channels that you should have available to log.

http://www.racepak.com/downloads/pdf...-VM-EFIMS2.pdf

For adding analog channels with Racepak you can either use their pre configured vnet modules (expensive but very simply plug and play) or their Universal sensor module which give you 4 more analog inputs per module which can be configured for any 0-5v analog sensor.

I haven't looked much into the aim but if it has 8 analog inputs and build in support for your ECU via CAN the price of the IQ3 with all modules required to equal the capability of the AIM MXL would be similar.

You really need to look at the post analysis software. All systems are more than capable of taking in the data but you need to know what you want to do with the data and which software can do it best. I found the Racepak software to be pretty clunky but i don't have too much experience with it.

Race Tech Dash2 Pro is my current favorite race dash. I find the software far better to work with than others, and it has excellent signal conditioning. The loaded up model with CAN, GPS, datalogging, analog ins, accelerometers, etc runs about $1200. AIM has you build external RC networks instead of conditioning analog signals properly. RacePak CAN support currently does not exist and they have been tough to work with. We have sent our standard and broadcasting CAN API's to them several times, but they failed to integrate it to their VNET.

From a technician point of vue, I really like the Dash2 integration. I work with devicenet, hart protocol and other field devices and don't understand why Racepak can work their shitz with CAN protocol.

Dash2 is becoming my #1 choice at the moment... Did you tried it Ben ? Nothing like real world experience with it.

Where can I find all the channels (CAN) from the MS3. I didn't found it on your website.

See the attached pdf. Yes, I have one but have only used it on a bench. You will need to run firmware 1.4 or newer.

Thanks for posting Ben. Is there a limit to the number of CAN channels that you can have enabled at a time? Also is it possible to broadcast certain channels at a higher rate then others?

Another thanks for that, Ben. I've been looking for the MS CAN specs and couldn't find that PDF anywhere.

I am not aware of a limit, but it's doubtful that you'd need all of them. You can adjust speed per group from 1Hz to 100Hz.

No problem.

Hey thanks Ben really good info there.

Really like the Dash 2 Pro and the software seems convivial too, need to try it. Looks easier then what AIM use (Solo owner).

Oil pressure = EXT_MAP Input will become IN1 on DASH2
Oil Temp = SPARE_ADC input will become IN2
Water pressure = EGO2 input will become IN3
Fuel level input will become IN4

IMO 250$ is cheap to add 4 other analogue Inputs (trans et diff temp, EGT if you need and something else like fuel pressure) and 4 outputs + 250$ GoPro video control adapter for a total of 1700$ you have something with a lot of potential.

Not so much on the fence finally !

I think I got the extra analog ins, IIRC. But we're working on CAN expansion box that will add 7 analog ins, 4 wheelspeed ins, and 4 digital outs for $400, maybe less. Should be released Febuary-ish.

Wow knowing that maybe we should move this thread in your section ! I thought Dimitris was the man who knew this the most, but it seems you guys are fairly advanced right now.

Will you be a retailer for the unit (Dash 2 Pro) + your expansion board so I can encourage a forum sponsor ?

Having everything in one interface is really useful. If the box could be configured through TS it would be fantastic.

Now I need to figure out how to convince someone to stream selected CAN parameters over BT to Racechrono (RaceDAC2 maybe)

I'm not sure how to take that, and I'm not trying to step on anyone's toes.

The CAN expansion module is a MegaSquirt product, not a Race Tech product. It integrates with the MegaSquirt and TunerStudio in an invisible and seamless way, no setup, it just works and you have extra I/O available.

Yes, you'll need this:
MicroSquirt Engine Management System DIYAutoTune.com

Plus

Firmware and manuals here:
Microsquirt IO-box Expander for Megasquirt - Megasquirt EFI

Enjoy

It's been a while. Do any of these dashes have better support for the MS3 Basic now? I remember Rev saying how unimpressed he was with the MXL Pista but that was a while ago.
