Default MS3 Mini

Does anyone have any information on the MS3 Mini? It would be great to add this to the table with the other products. Features, pricing, etc. Only information I have seen was a review from across the pond.

Thanks!

This is a product that we have been keeping under the wraps as a potential replacement of the now discontinued Basic MS2 and Enhanced MS2. It's for those that need a simple but modern ECU.

It has sequential injection, wasted spark ignition, knock control, idle control, boost control, VVT output, tacho output, fuel pump output, dual cooling fan output, A/C control, launch control input, table switch input, analog wideband input, single VSS input (99-05), alternator control/battery light (99-05), VICS (99-00), 1 spare analog input, SD card logging, USB port.

Compared to the Basic MS3, it doesn't have the plethora of spare inputs and outputs, realtime baro sensor, adaptive crank/cam inputs, realtime clock for the SD logs, serial port, 2nd VSS input, DB37 with color-coded wiring for expansion.

To reduce the cost, it doesn't come in the usual aluminum enclosure the Basic comes in, it's a board-only ECU that is meant to be installed inside the stock ECU enclosure.

The target pricing for this ECU is $799.

Since we're on the subject of new releases: I saw that you had an MS3 rocking on an NC. Any plans to do a PNP for the NC? Have a friend that's having some pretty horrible experiences with tuners on the EcuTek front, and none of us can help him because he's not on Megasquirt.

We already have 3 cars running on a PnP. To be officially released within the year, pending minimal fixes and improvements.

Looking forward for your release of the MS3 Mini. Perhaps a group buy would be in order for a new product release

I have installed and tuned ms3 mini prototypes in na and nbs with great success.
It has all the features most users need, in a budget-friendly package.

I see this is now available for sale from a UK-based distributor. Any plans to bring it over to a North American supplier? Seems like the perfect solution for a VVT swap.

I sent him to trackspeed, the US distributor for MS Labs. I dunno if it's available or not officially.

I can special-order them.

When coming down to a Mini from the full MS3 Basic, here's what you are giving up, in no particular order:
  • No sequential ignition
  • No realtime baro sensor
  • No enclosure, fits inside the stock ECU case.
  • Only one spare analog input (prewired to the MAF)
  • Only one spare digital input (plus launch control on the clutch pedal)
  • Only one spare programmable output (for boost control)
  • No second VSS input for the 99-05, no VSS input on the 90-97.
  • No realtime clock for the SD logging
For race cars, the lack of I/O makes a digital dash much harder to implement. Lack of sequential spark may be an issue for some ignition systems in some applications. I have one here for a budget shop build, but when I am putting together a turbo car, I always opt for the full-fat Basic because of the increased I/O, sequential spark, and the baro sensor (in that order).

Thankfully it supports CANBus, so you could add all the sensors you want in a separate "sensor box"; as a matter of fact a friend has built a CAN sensor node (with RTC), yet to be tested on the Miata but works as intended in another application. I especially like the OEM-like integration about the Mini (and the price tag as well). I see lack of sequential spark being an issue for some people tho.

Did something change between the development and release?

Before asking Rev, has anyone used the OEM NB2 immobilizer with the mini? According to Bofi's review it should be able to, but Rev's comparison sheet is empty on that field.
