1993 DIYPNP no start HELP:(
alright I've tried to do the right thing and build in stages, do my homework, before asking questions. here I go...
1993 n/a 1.6 manual trnsmission braineack built mspnp from earlier this year. plugged in, cranks, no start. removed st_sign fuse, no start. wells 210 vtps soldered, installed, calibrated, no start. adjusted injector settings from 420cc to 215cc no start. ran jumper wire on afm pigtail, started once, didn't idle, died. installed innovate mtx-l, calibrated it, no start. all times tried it cranks I hear the fuel pump priming. I did have an issue with having to update firmware each new project I loaded. I know I screwed smething up because I made a change in the settings and now there's a settings warning about the a/c pin. cooling fan now turns on when I put the key on the "on" position. I know my timing is advanced, but I was going to correct that once I started the car and got it running, then use trigger wheel to correct. but I cannot get it started... i'm also trying to upload a fuel table here but it won't save on my desktop to view here... I've been all over this forum trying to help myself, but now i'm at the point where I need to start asking for your all's help. thanks in advance oh, car has no a/c. |
Can you post a copy of your MSQ and a data log of an attempted start? This will show what is and is not working.
Please note that the MSPNP refers specifically to our line, with MSPNP marked clearly on the lid - we have to make sure there isn't any confusion. There were a couple rants from someone who had bought a competing ECU (not ours or Brain's) ranting about how his "MSPNP" sucked, when it wasn't an MSPNP at all. We've got a reputation to protect. :) |
You reflashed firmware and/or reload a new msq? why?
I never suggest removing st_sign fuse. but you do have to jump pins in the AFM connector to activate the fuel pump. what changed between the ffirst time you got it to run to now? email me. |
thanksyour help

oh, I believe me it is operator error on my part. not you guys. hopefully these pics will give you an idea what I got goin on... took pics of the VE table and AFR table pic of motherboard of ecu pic of the AFM wiring to GM IAT pic of db15 plug for innovate mtx-l. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1435674084 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1435674084 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1435674084 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1435674084 |

scott thanks for chiming in..
I got the mismatching firmware warning when the ecu started communicating with the laptop, it gave me selections on the bottom screen from updating firmware, to use computer firmware. as to the car starting, It started when I inverted polarity on the AFM pigtail. but I had to throttle to get started, and wouldn't idle. |

once you went vTPS, you needed to cut out that resistor on the connector board:
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1435676073 the one near the "BY" jumping 4L to 4D. that's keeping the TPS set to 100% TPS and youre going into flood clear mode. cut that resistor out, calibration the TPS with car to "ON", not running, and that should get you running again. also on that pic it looks like the shunt on BOOT is installed on both pins, did you do that? if so you need to remove it. That won't allow the MS to operate as it's in a boot mode for loading firmware. |
scott, I sent you am email reply

thanks a bunch scott.

post the msq and datalog file that you took during cranking.

your log suggests that you dont have your MAP sensor connected.
but it appears that you're not getting sync, i see the RPMs are going from 0 to 150 and back to 0 during cranking. need to see your MSQ. |
scott,
the date above your last post is the datalog file. can you see it or open it? |
where is the MSQ? sorry noob question...
|
file save tune as.
something is preventing you from getting sync. I'm sure you dont see the sync indicator light up when you're cranking. do one more thing for me too, click the diagnositics tabs, click save to file, start and name the file, then crank for me for a good 5-10sec. then stop and attach that .csv file here as well. |
vacuum line t'd off FPR to MAP port on PNP
db15 plug wired to mtx-l. only unused wire is brown and white from wideband |
your datalog is not showing you pulling any vaccum when you crank, it should be dropping much lower, that's what made me think it wasn't plugging in.

can you see these?

oh and the shundt on BOOT I did not do. only thing i've touched on the board is snip the resistor you told me to...
|
yeah but i cant view them until im home really...
|
cool.. I'll check again tomorrow morning 9 am ish... I do appreciate all your help.

on ignition settings, put ignition input capture back to falling edge and spark duration back to 0.7ms; these are settings you shouldnt be touching.
if you're using stock injectors, use 12.2 for REQ_FUEL. you turned a/c idle up off. why? you put in some crazy AFR targets table. you enabled MAF -- this is why your MAP logs are funky. why did you randomly change that stuff? I'd honestly suggest going back to the map I sent loaded on your DIYPNP, change the req_fuel value only (by simply entering in the injector size), then syncing timing (something that doesn't look done). after it's running again, report back. |
just got back to my laptop to respond to your message. I apologize ahead in advance for the systematic changes, although I should attest I did not voluntarily change some of the items your talking about. I don't know how they did change....
I did change the a/c input because after a refresh, the cooling fan just started coming on and staying on when I turned the key.so I tried to cut it off... I enabled MAF thinking it was one of the gremlins causing the no starting issue. the AFR targets I did not touch... because of the incoming holiday, and responsibilities outside of "Miata time" I will not be able to touch the MSPNP till after next week. I'll message you a day ahead in advance when I get ready for testing again. i'll be studying tunerstudio until then. thanks for all your help. tony |
original tune?

scott,
quick question for when I get started back up again. which file is your original tune? I want to make sure i'm using the right tune. thanks again tony https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1435756667 |
no clue, depends what project you are using, then youd have to recover an older working copy. i can just email you the tune.
what size injectors are you running? |
injectors...
scott,
sorry I just saw your post. I currently am running the stock injectors, but I have the rx-8 injectors sitting in a box. should I install them already? I hesitated at first because I wanted to make sure I had the car started and timed before making anymore adjustments seeing I have wreaked enough havoc on the car. please let me know if I should install them when you email me the new tune have a safe and happy holiday thanks in advance tony |
