Default 99-00 MS2 PNP Startup Map Issues

I apologize if I seem a little un-researched, but this is completely new territory for me and I am not really sure where to start.

Configuration: I have an MS2 PNP 99-00 on a 2000 Miata with a GM air intake temp sensor and an AEM UEGO wideband. Except for the exhaust and the sensors, the engine is stock. I loaded the 99-00 startup map for the correct firmware on my MS and configured the wideband and intake temp sensor in turner studio. Other than that, I have left the tune as is.

When I go the start the vehicle, sometimes (usually the first time after it has sat for a while) it will start, but usually it takes some throttle input to get it going and keep it running. For the short periods of time I can keep it running, it is running stupid rich, which i assume is most of my problem. I have not been able to set timing yet, as i cant keep the car running long enough to do so.

Also, I understand this is a startup map which is less refined than a base map. As far as startup and idle, what parameters do I want to begin to mess with and how do they work?

Also, might there be any more refined base maps available?

Thanks in advance.

If it's showing rich remove some fuel from the block of cells below 2000 rpm until it approaches normal. Set the target idle at 1200 or 1500 initially if you must to keep it running while adjusting the fuel and checking the timing.

Thanks! I will try this tonight. Quick question about calculating injector fuel required. What AFR do I want to be the target? Im suspecting that this isn't configured correctly in the startup map.

Required fuel should calculate after you enter your injector data and hit the required fuel button, maybe i am remembering that wrong.

you want to see a 14.7 (or close to it) AFR at idle.

In the required fuel calculator, I was asking what should go in the "Air-Fuel Ratio" field.

Got the car to start and idle well. Need to figure out idle mix a bit more, but this seems to be a good start. Set the base timing as well. Thanks for the help!
