Default Error message when loading mspnp

Hello,
I am in day 3 of the ECU install, limited time so that translates into 3 weeks. I have been able to get the the car to start easily, idle well, and run ok. However, I received an error code that makes me nervous and I am trying to rectify the situation.

Message
controller code does not match the signature in msns-extra.ini
EXPECT MSNS-EXTRA FORMAT 029q
RECEIVE MSNS - E???? FORMAT 029q

I assume I need to delete and start from scratch - not sure. Where to begin?

"92 mspnp jrsc with 8psi, w/i (not incorporated yet)

Thank you

Brian

thats on megatune i take it, i had the same issue. you have to get the megatune for that code, or just download the tunerstudio and set it up to that code. its fairly easy after you get that part out of the way.... mine did the same at first....

go to new project and i think in the first menu that pops up you can go to detect or you just put in what your code is under ecu definition, like mines set for ms/extra format hr_10**********, as it shows, i just happened to look cause i never shut the laptop off when i came in earlier and its just sitting in front of me..lol... but ya, read up, i learned more on here than the protege forum im on, atleast theres a ton of miatas with ms....

Normally this error occurs if you chose a project based on firmware that is different than what is loaded into your ECU.

Have you installed firmware other than what came in the ECU from us? What firmware shows as installed into your MSPNP if you ask it? (ie run portcheck.exe)

Assuming you posted the error message exactly as your computer displayed it, it could be a result of a not-so-great usb to serial adapter.

i only say this because it's putting some questionmarks (presumably placeholers undecipherable characters) but the rest of the firmware definition seems to match...

you could try on different laptop hardware and see if you get the same error.

Ben,
Not intentially, if that is an answer. I will run portcheck when I get home tonight.

ctxspy,
interesting point, the adaptor did not work on one laptop - but appears to be fine on the new one, maybe? I am out of laptops, I guess i can drag the old desktop and try that option?

Thanks,

Brian

Hello,
I hit the portcheck and identified com 5 with the following "MSnS-extraformat029qxxxxxxxxx"
Is this correct?
I did not get the error code today, which is odd but good.
I did download tunerstudio but no other actions.

Thoughts?

Brian

Everything sounds fine. I think it was just a communication glitch. If you have problems again in the future, you might need to look into your USB adapter drivers or possibly replace the adapter itself.

so i keep forgetting the check back, is it running yet? go on craigslist and make a wtb ad for an old laptop, i got one in a day for 50 bucks i put in a gig of ram and a 120 gig hdd and its almost faster than my home pc, for the fact nothings on it...lol...

also, im not sure if ts is more picky than mt, but if you did what i was saying the other day, and go to the projects in ts, and put in your code, or allow it to find it, it may work, otherwise , itll show you all the errors your getting atleast....

Yes it is running, thanks for checking. No time during the week to work on tuning, that will be my fathers day relaxation.
