How to view current tune on MSPNP2

Hi everyone,

I bought a boosted 1997 Miata last summer. I'm currently having some issues with it out of nowhere. It was driving perfectly since I've had it with no symptoms. It randomly will not stay on. It cranks, starts, then dies / stalls after a few seconds.

While I wait for my crank position sensor, I wanted to check out the tune. This car was tuned by a shop in North Carolina and it has been running great. Since this was professionally tuned, I don't want to make any changes or mess anything up. How do I connect to the MSPNP2 to view and save the tune without making any changes? From my research, I think I connect to it by creating a new project then hitting "Save As" once I'm connected. Is it as simple as that? I just want to ensure that creating a new project won't override anything. Thank you very much!

Yes, when you create a new project, the first time you connect to the ECU, TS will pull the tune from the ECU. Then just click Save tune as, to keep a backup.

Make sure you create the new project while in the car, with the USB cable connected and the ignition on. DON'T do it in the house, while at work, etc. That's the only catch.

Thank you, I got it connected. For anyone else having an issue connecting to your ECU, you have to make sure that your serial-USB adapter is set to COM1 - COM4. On my laptop, I had two Bluetooth adapters set to COM3 and COM4 by factory default. After a week of troubleshooting, I realized that the portcheck.exe was seeing my MSPNP2 but I was unable to communicate with it through Tuner Studio. You can go into the "Advanced" tab under your serial-USB adapter in "Device Manager" and manually set your COM port to something below COM5. When you go to open a new project and click "Detect Firmware", Tuner Studio doesn't check any ports higher than COM4 for some reason.
