idle smooth with clutch in, jumpy with clutch out
 

Hey y'all,
searched a good bit, posted on forum.miata with no luck yet. time to come the the experts. :)
My mspnp2 on my '90 has a pretty decent open loop idle (using basically the settings from the base tune diy sent it with). but its only good with the clutch in. I let the clutch out and the map jumps up, yanks the idle up, drops back down, and repeats. makes for some crazy idle jumping. I have the feeling I have just messed up a setting somewhere, but I have hunted and can't find anything in TS to affect this.

just an update, I have narrowed this down to the clutch position switch (or whatever its called). holding the clutch to the floor, if I actuate the switch that clutch would hit when fully out, the idle jumps. So it must be a setting somewhere telling the ECU to change how it idles depending on clutch position.. ?

Anyone know what setting this could be? i'm starting to get desperate haha. :)

I had same issue with the car would idle search with clutch in and then CL idle would kick in with clutch release and everything would be ok again.... I messed with a bunch of things and guessed around and played...and now its better...

I'm not posting my settings as they're probably completely messed up.

so figured this out, just thought I would post the results.
The neutral switch for the gearbox seems to not be functioning. so I don't know why the ECU (in open loop) was paying attention to that, but every time I let the clutch out, it assumed I was in gear.
So I just buckled down and tuned closed loop idle, told the ECU to ignore the clutch/neutral switch as a requirement for entering CLidle, and now I have a happy car with a good idle.

I do have one question about Closed loop.
I have it set to close the IAC valve when not in CLidle, which it does, and then of course its supposed to go back to the last setting before you idle again, so the idle is stable. However I'm finding that it opens the valve back up in strange situations. mostly, I'm noticing that When I step on the gas while in gear, the IAC valve goes to that last idle position.

- What setting would I need to adjust to change when this valve re-opens?

ms2 doesn't care about the switch.

it does care about the extra load when engaged...

Can you clarify in what situation you are talking about? :)

open loop? - cuz in open loop I was able to push the switch at top of clutch throw with my hand while holding clutch pedal to the floor, and the idle changed, so it was definitely caring for some reason. =/
and if you mean closed loop, there is a setting in TS "PID lockout on switch active" with a header above it saying "Closed-loop idle entry (for Clutch/Neutral switch)".

when you push in the clutch pedal, you remove load from the car.

tune your fuel table better and/or your PID CL idle settings.

just thought I would follow up on this to wrap it up here.
Can't remember the name, but the switch that tells the ECU if the gearbox is in neutral or in gear seems inoperative. so open loop idle was getting mixed up whenever I let the clutch out in neutral, as it assumed I was in gear. Switched over to using CLidle, told it to ignore the neutral switches, and idle is perfectly fine. I do plan to fix this switch, as its a bit annoying to not have that switch locking the car out of CLidle when in gear (driving around in gear near idle RPM the IAC valve tries to compensate, since it doesn't know I have the clutch out in gear.)
I'm sure my fuel table is a rough thing, but it wasn't the issue here at least :)
